On a positive note, I finished making my brake lines yesterday:

Also finished fitting them to the bike, but left the job of bleeding them until today. I was a little apprehensive of this. From previous experience I know a completely dry system can be a pig to sort out, plus the fact I've heard mixed reviews about the repro master cylinder I was using. :roll:

So being 'brave' I started with the rear end, (Jimmock, don't even go there!) that went well. Apart from completely rebuilding the caliper I completely stripped the master cylinder to clean out all the crystallised brake fluid. It all bled up a treat. :)

Next was the front end. I filled the master reservoir & gave the lever a few pumps......... Nothing, which was to be expected. I started to pull the fluid down into the system with a vacuum bleeder (Mityvac), after doing both calipers a couple of times, there was only clear fluid coming through, not a bubble in sight, however there was still absolutely no pressure at the lever. I thought I might be suffering the same 'curse' as Ralph. I tied the lever back to the bar & found something else to do for a couple of hours, being able to resist temptation no longer, I released the lever & after a couple of pumps, there was now some pressure at the lever. I retied the lever & tried again after another couple of hours, the result got better every time, by the time I vacated the garage, I had a good firm front brake. :sou :lon

Not planning on indicators, back in the day they would have been binned, along with standard exhausts, rear mudguards & air boxes.

I am considering having the grabrail re-chromed though, I'd also love a pair of those diamond shaped rubber blanks to fit the mounts in the frame where the indicators would fit. :roll:

Tried John Browse for the little diamond frame infill's. He told me some bloke called Keith had bought 'em all up. :roll:

Decided to tidy up the end of my Alfa pipe. The original end plate was pretty knackered, so I cut it out quite a while back.
This left an untidy outlet;

I used a section of old Kerker perforated tube, along with a bit of wadding & turned myself a new end cap.

All seems to fit quite well & tidy's up the outlet. It'll take a trip to Mikey before it's fitted permanently.

GB, How tricky is it to make up the brake lines? I need a complete set of 5 including clutch for my project and am wondering whether to buy the bits and do it myself or to order made up hoses from Venhill. The clutch will be a pig to measure as I think the best route will be along the spine of the frame and down the rear tube, i.e. about 1.5 metres. Your piccy makes it look easy but some words of wisdom would be appreciated.

Bike is looking really good BTW, it's the rear mudguard that makes it.

I buy a load of stuff of these chaps - good service - wide range of lengths & fitting off the shelf....... Just give 'em the lengths & fitting type (banjo angles) and its done :wink:
