Mr zed1015: I have checked the specs and you are (as usual) right. I have ordered renthal ultra low in black. I bought the streetfighter ones ages ago and can't remember why I chose them but it was a mistake. Mind you, new Renthal bars are cheaper than four cam plugs from Z-Power....
Mr GB: I can't get the seat link to work. Seat specialist recommendations welcome. I have had seats recovered in the past with mixed results. It's a bit like paint, lots of average suppliers and very few really good ones.
Everyone else: thanks for the feedback, it's really appreciated. It's taken a long time to get here and I'm happy that most of you seem to like where it's going. I'm a bit surprised that most people seem to like the front end and forks best. It was much more difficult getting the swingarm and shocks sorted and that's the part I'm most pleased with.

The silver bars have gone and I now have Renthal ultra low superbike in black. They suit the bike much better and are a bit narrower and lower than the silver ones. Now that I am happy with them I have glued on the LH grip and put the switchgear on. I think I'll fit a Venhill 888 throttle assembly. I filed down the cam plugs until they fitted (very tedious) so the engine is now sealed. The carbs (Keihin CR31) were a tight fit on the rubbers but a squirt with some PTFE spray and they went on OK.
I have also fitted the coils, the starter motor and made the rest of the high current cabling. I've used 10sq mm cable with adhesive lined heatshrink over the crimp/cable junctions for strain relief and sealing. I bought a heavy duty crimper from ebay so I could make all cables myself. I have also changed the battery box a bit. Motogadget recommend fitting a main fuse between the battery and the m-unit so I managed to get one to fit at the front top of the box. All that's left now is the rest of the harness.....
All that remains before trying to start it is 1) connect the plug leads, 2) set the ignition timing, 3) connect the Dyna S to the coils and 12V and 4) some petrol in the carbs. (and yes I have put some oil in it).

Before FIRST fire-up....... squirt engine oil into the cam buckets - or at least leave all the plugs out (and Dyna unplugged) and spin her over for a minute or two to prime it all up.
Best to take the Cam Cover off & "squirt engine oil into the cam buckets" and watch to see the oil is pumping up into the top-end
Best to be a bit OTT and extra safe

Just a thought but you could leave the tank off (safe and sound) and use one of these -

I bought the filters from Japan. They are S&S air charger and I bought them mainly because I liked the look of them. They are also reasonably small and fit neatly behind the carbs. The red/pink filter elements are a bit discoloured and I was thinking of dyeing them black for cosmetic reasons. I don't think that dyeing would restrict the airflow, but if anyone knows better, please say so.

If you use the proper K&N oil, this will bring the nice red colour back - and if done to the instructions, won't harm the air flow
