The fitting of the idiots lights and wiring would have me worried about some of the other 'work' that's been done that we're not seeing.

Lose the fairing, fit a proper headlight and clocks, tone down the green/gold on the calipers and lowers etc and you've got yourself a nice ST.

Everything that's fitted works though and works well. I cant deny it, underneath the seat and tank were a lurking a few little devils, but it's all very original and intact. The real hidden horror was inside the tank, that may cost me. (See another posting here).
When I get to meet someone here, that really knows his Zed nut's from his Zed bolts, I'll be asking them to tell me what else is wrong that I missed in Reading. Now there's an offer not to be refused..... :!: :!:

It goes without saying that you're always going to get some negative comments when posting up pictures on the world wide web of dare I say such a 'controversial' looking bike, but I think you knew that anyway so weren't offended.

As said though (not just by me) lose the clutter and you'll have a really nice example of a very underrated Zed for a decent price.

Especially for Gary in Cheapest Cheshire and no doubt will raise a titter or two from elsewhere here...This pair of 'extras' were very thoughtfully removed from my ST by the seller....(he took the ST in part/ex from the original chap that spent all this money).
They could be very useful to certain 'professionals' out there that only work 2/3 nights per week.....They fit each digit perfectly too. Possibly another ornament here....

Correct. I'm not offended here, or on flickr (my only other www outlet), believe you me. And with the Big-Five-Zero fast approaching, it really is a case of DILLIGAF....I'll enjoy the ride while I'll can... :!: :!:

Kempton Park bargains.

#23 PostAuthor: Aztec Warrior » Sun Jan 25, 2015 6:31 pm

I try to visit most of the Kempton Park Autojumble/Shows every year. December and May are the best, for there excellent show content, but the normal, Autojumble only gatherings do throw up some curious and unusual stuff, and a few bargains, if your lucky, compared to on-line buying. It's a day out, and not getting any cheaper. With my ST off-road for the moment, it's £16:95 train fare plus £6:00 entrance before one even gets a look in! Saying that, I'm sure the 130 mile round trip via the motorways from Kent will cost even more on my ST....!
Takes a bit of time trawling through it all and a lot of stuff is mainly British iron, but after quite a few visits now, I can manage to get around in about four hours.
These few bits caught my eye yesterday, the first gathering of the year for Kempton Park, and were bought to 'improve' my ST in the future.
The new, replica RD250 headlight for £30 could be just what I need, bulbs and fittings included. The twin spots, again, new/old stock, unmarked and complete for £25 were well worth snapping up. That Streetfighter 'look' may or may not work, not sure yet. Pair of comfort grips for £9, and a very nice chrome/glass, cleanable/renewable type fuel filter for £8. And for just a quid, a gold anodised Kawa oil filler cap, just to upset the purist's again, although some people here might think that Tasty Nuts are really quite nice....

Was at a bike show a few years ago and one of those A-Typical Street fighter Bandits parked next to me, however as well as the usual stuff said bike had all manor of those Knuckle duster thingies nailed to it, which the owner was more than happy to inform me was from a 'specialist' supplier and cost 'Big Money'.

So get 'em on the Bay..... Quick!.

Hi Alan , IF you would like to put a standard ST headlight in ( not that there's anything wrong with your RD one )
I've a complete ST headlight here , yours for the price of the postage .
The lens is scratched though , not by road rash but just by rough storage .
I don't know if there is a wet and dry/polishing method to bring it scratch free .

You may be right Gary. At this rate, all the paint job related bits will be going! The Renthals are already off (more gold).
Just hope I can salvage the tank. Was very tempted at Kempton Park yesterday by a Z1000P tank, off a breaker, no tap, all original paint, sender attached, but no key for the cap, and it did sound a little gravelly inside, so probably needs treating, to add to the £75 asking price. Not even sure if it would fit the ST. Scarily, it looked like fuel capacity was a bit limited compared to the ST!

Nice offer, thanks, I'm tempted, but I shall try the RD out first, else I'll end up with more spares taking up more space than the bike!

Hidden Horror!

#28 PostAuthor: Aztec Warrior » Thu Feb 12, 2015 10:16 pm

Last weekend was quite productive with some attention to the tank carried out. After a thorough clean out the sender and fuel tap were re-sealed and put back on. Home made gasket from my Bullet stash worked well on the beautiful Pingel Tap, a real nice piece of engineering that bit. Blue Hylomar was also used. The filler cap will need sealing too as that also has two screws going right through the tank, as per the tap. Horrible design this tank, pressed, shaped and folded steel with 'traps' in both those bottom rear ends. A real 'rot box' design that should have been properly treated before that expensive paint job was applied. I cant fathom why this problem was not picked up in it's previous life.
Have managed quite a bit this week after work too, what with better weather, a lot of bit's and pieces have been looked at. Getting there.

This was removed a couple of weeks ago, a soggy mess akin to the skin off a rice pudding! Now dried out, it just crumbles to fragments...

Not too healthy!

Love that Pingel tap. Frightening how quick the fuel flows though....?

Image

Back in position plus a new glass/cleanable type fuel filter and 5/16th pipe plus stainless hose clips. The Pingel also has a gauze shroud around it's flow pipe too. Ready to fill and test soon I hope.

Sunny Sunday.

#29 PostAuthor: Aztec Warrior » Mon Feb 16, 2015 9:36 am

All up and running having been way-laid since late December. A 20 minute test ride confirmed all is well. Started easily on the kicker after this short lay-up and the electric start is spot on once again. Work completed: Tank cleaned/flushed, new fuel pipe and filter, carbs tweaked/checked, throttle cables checked/lubed, plug caps replaced, new clutch cable, starter motor brushes replaced, higher bars and comfort grips fitted, fork tubes dropped by 15mm to there standard position, Predator 'face'/bracket raised to the max, clocks re-positioned forward of yokes, front wheel/calipers removed/checked, general once over, especially electrics, and everything works. Brakes are very strong, and can lock both wheels easy. Rear wheel will spin on the tarmac, just-like-that, if a big handful is let loose too hastily! Will move the bars forward a touch after this ride, as it seemed too laid back for me. All that's left for the moment is some elbow grease and lots of Solvol Autosol.....

Looking good, back on the road and out for a 20 minute test run, in the very pleasant, late Sunday afternoon sunshine.

Let the polishing begin......

I better get to the next Kempton Park early then to beat you to the ST bits, either that or we should swap numbers and split the show between us to trawl through in half the time!
