Toast racks are Toast - in the bin. Slash cuts to follow shortly after...:-)

Coming along nicely now - will post some pics up in the next couple of days.

Carbs rebuilt and back on with new manifold rubbers. Fork damper rod piston ring sourced & replaced. Forks rebuilt & on.

New oil & filter & air filter.

Going for the first fire (since 1984) in a couple of days - will motor the engine over with new oil / plugs removed first to ensure a well lubricated engine / top end.

Will keep you guys posted.

Once the carbs are dialed-in will fit a set of Doremi 4-4 pipes in a couple of weeks & re-balance again before MOT / registration.

Any recommendations on the best source for the full Doremi 4-4 kit with fittings?

The more I look at / go through the bike it's staggering how clean, original & untouched she is.

Quick update...

Had a paint correction session on the z1 tank on Tuesday night (really just to clean it up a bit).

Thought I'd share the results here.

Took about 30-60 mins work in total with my DAS6 pro dual action polisher and Menzerna products.

There is still a further stage of refinement to go, but I'll do that when I come to do the final detail on the whole bike...

Note the tank was clean and had been clay bar cleaned prior to starting this process.

The starting point:

Couple of dents I'll need to get PDR'd:

So a lot of progress these past couple of week on the bike. She's now running, and beautifully at that...

List of works completed:

- Carbs removed, stripped, ultrasonicly cleaned, rebuilt & re-fitted
- New carb to engine manifold / rubbers
- Forks completely rebuilt with new stanchions, seals etc..
- Rear wheel checked & fitted with new bearings / shoes
- Front wheel checked - bearings OK
- New tyres, tubes & rim tapes f&r & wheels re-balanced
- Front caliper removed, cleaned, rebuilt with new pads
- Master cylinder flushed & checked
- New brake pipes from m/c to caliper
- Head bearings checked & re-greased
- Oil & filter
- Air filter
- New plugs
- Plug caps / coils, HT leads checked for impedance
- Earth points cleaned & wiring harness checked
- New (reproduction) controls fitted
- New (reproduction) handlebars
- New front & rear fenders (reproduction)
- New rear shocks fitted (reproduction)
- Original grabrail re-fitted
- AGM battery fitted
- Petcock rebuilt
- Points checked / timing adjusted
- Valves checked / adjusted
- Cam chain adjusted

The bike is now running & sounds AMAZING. Just like a 4000 mile example should thanks god....

MOT'd last week & in the process of being UK registered...

Note: all of the original OEM parts will be refurbished / re-chromed & fitted back on the bike over the winter to ensure the integrity / originality of the bike is maintained. I just wanted to get the bike back on her feet before the summer is over.

Managed to get a couple of hours away from the family (thanks wife) to start cleaning the bike thoroughly cleansed. I've not had a chance to polish any of he chrome yet.

Will be ordering a set of 4-4 doremi pipes in the next couple of weeks & we should be good for the first ride.

Some pictures of how she stands now:

Looks pretty tidy James, welcome to the addiction. You didn't ask for my advice but this is the internet so I'm going to give it anyway. Try to resist the temptation to 'over' restore it. There are so many bikes that have had the living daylights restored out of them it's nice to see one in good nick but properly aged and original.

+1... great project,, please keep the well tidy but used look,, love the bike though and well done with the clean up

Latest update:

Tank back from PDR looking lovely - kind of shows up the side panels / tail section which I haven't paint corrected yet.

The bike is now UK registered so I'm just waiting for a Fuel Tap rebuild kit to arrive and I can take her for a ride....can't wait to be honest.

I have a the side stand also here & it's awaiting fitment.

Once I've got the carbs bedded down and I'm happy that the bike is running properly / synced on all 4 I'll be placing an order with SAISEI for some reproduction 4-4 pipes an that'll be it for the time being..

Will post up some video / running report in a week or so.

Cheers,

James.

Afternoon all. Been a little while since I updated this thread. Other projects (H**** SOHC4 bikes) have kept me from finishing the zed until the last couple of weeks.

Fitted a set of Doremi 4-4 pipes and a Doremi Tank Set in Blue to finish the bike off.

Many thanks to Adam Bagnall for supplying the majority of service & reproduction parts.

Thanks to David at Saisei-Europe for supplying the reproduction tank set and Pipes.

All of the original parts have been carefully stored to maintain the provenance of the bike and will always stay with her should I decide to sell on in the future.

Took her out today for the maiden voyage - first time she's been ridden since 1982. Rode absolutely flawlessley and was a pleasure from start to finish. Put about 20 miles on her now & loved ever minute of it so far.

Some photos taken today down in Hove where we live....(note LHS side panel badge is missing because it had a flaw in it - replacement from Saisei arrives tomorrow, thanks to David for the quick response)
