Having sold my other zed I have decided to turn this one into a classic racer for Spa and the Classic rackdays next year.
So I have ditched the dymags and fitted some 17" spokes and an old Harris I had lying around
(courtesy of MCZ900).

So the spec has changed slightly it will have

38mm Z1000r front end with Maxton conversions,
AP brakes
ZRX Rearshocks,
Dresda swing arm.
Rearsets
Harris clipon's

Harris will be blasted cut and repositioned (Or replaced if I can source a better one)

I am just dry building it to make sure everything aligns before stripping for paint etc, and to repair the output shaft in the motor.
(Thanks z1parr for the spare)
Hence it looks a bit scrappy at the moment with mismatched bodywork etc

Image

The only issue is that it is sitting a bit lower on the 17"s and I need the ground clearance for Spa, So I would like to go to 18" rims,
(I have some lined up just awaiting them to be shipped  )

I will probably sell on the 17 Akronts currently fitted once I get the new 18" ones built.

Could also do with a z1100r replica plastic mudguard if anyone knows of one anywhere.

One of these years this chassis may even see the light of day!!

Progress.

Well things have moved on and I have managed to get further work done on this and the plan has changed yet again.

I have decided to park the DYMAGS and XJR swing arm for a future project and have acquired other bits for this one.
The objective changed to build another classic track day bike similar to my rescued from a friend project, but basically pepped up, but this is coming on so nice it will probably be a racer for the road.

So now we have:all the black bits powder coated.

I am fitting rearsets and have finished the frame mods to mount the rear master cylinder.

A different front end from my friends Moriwaki bike its a z1000r maxton cartridge forks with Harris clip-ons and ap lockheeds calipers.
I have had to mate these to the new wheel of choice which is an 18 akront front rim and standard discs.

In the rear I have fitted another akront 18" matched to another dresda and modified the brake mounting, and fitted Classicattack conti's.

So this is pretty much it at present.

Next jobs are strip the engine to replace the final drive shaft and put in a kickstarter.

Also should send my seat for recovering this week and then need to decide on the paintwork, I think I will go for an other black silver job as the previous one was so good. It will also match the rest of the bike nicely.

Update

#28 PostAuthor: KWACKERZ1 » Wed Feb 19, 2014 2:37 pm

Quick update I have been working on the engine to replace the gearbox sprocket and whilst stripping it it all looks good.
Stripped the gearbox out and am Just awaiting the new shaft to arrive, so I thought I would look at fitting some bigger cams.
Bottom end is all sound, top end has APE adjustable cam wheels in it, Under bucket shims and relieved head and cam cover. Which all ties in with the receipts I got with the bike and the guy I bought it from said he ran stage 3 cams initially before replacing them with standard ones. ( that to be honest look brand new.) But it would be nice to have some cams to complement the porting and bigger carbs.

So I raided the stash and found some undetermined cams that appear to be about 0.5mm lift bigger than standards.

But then today I unearthed these little fella's

Image

They are have casting letters in there saying CWC K269 7H27 USA But further investigation with my (old person monocle and trusty workshop companion), magnifying glass showed that part of the casting had been smoothed down and engraved with

RC400 127 87K

I can only assume from this that they are RUSS COLLINS 400 lift cams.

:up :clap :bng :hoo

Unless anyone knows better!!!

So just need to get them in check valve to piston and valve overlap.
