Redbeard have pm you re wheels painting.
Peter, I know what you mean re getting frame and starting to bolt bits on. My original plan was to put motor in early by laying it on its side and lowering frame over it to avoid marking it. I needed to do some top end work, so I have been trying bits on and I should probably stop now or I will be struggling to lift motor into a fully built up frame. I don't know if you remember when i was younger and lived on the farm at Caton, but I used to get my bikes in the kitchen there and have done engine strips in the winter (that 550 H**** I bought of Mick Deboz) and even had them started up inside. My mum used to go play hell. Your kitchen table must be a gud en. its been bitter in York today and tried to snow again.

Waiting for stuff at the moment. Gaskets for top end. I decided to pull the top end off the replacement engine to check things. it's a lot easier while the engine is out. Glad I did as the bores were corroded on two cylinders. Looks like it was stood a while and the valves on those two cylinders let moisture in, which sat around the rings. Took it to my engine guy and he said my spare barrels were better, so I am having them honed.
On the chassis side, I have finished the front forks. I was struggling to get the new seals in (aftermkt). Bought some Kawasaki ones and they went in great. Also painted the disc centres with high temp enamel.
Bought some pattern ribbed grips and they look good. The seat cover I ordered had a minor defect, so I am sending it back.

I also painted the crankcases with VHT silver. All I have to do now is get the outer covers to a mirror finish. To do this I have bought a polishing kit. So I expect to be spending a fair bit of time in the shed.
I stripped and painted the mirrors that came with the bike. I am sure they are the wrong type, but prefer the look of them to the chrome type.

Know what you mean, i had to break out the swarfega after the polishing.
On a lighter note, I picked this up off ebay on Saturday night.
Top end is with Mark Halliwell at F and J Motorcycles getting vapourblasted. I have seen photos of his work on the site and it looks good.

Had a good day, bike back on its wheels (used the coins in the centrestand spring trick) and just awaiting top end back from F and J, which Mark has done today, so just courier time to wait.

Put the cylinder block back on this morning. A piece of cake with the proper tool. From sliding the block over the studs to settling it onto the crankcases would of taken under 5 mins. I have taken the cylinder head to the engineer to get a valve seat cut, as after head was cleaned pitting to one of the seats was noticed that is too bad to get rid of with valve grinding paste.

Thought I would post an update to say that the poor condition valve seat was beyond redemption. After cutting, it was beyond the maximum valve installed height. A phonecall to Gavin at SEP at Kegworth was required and they can fit a new valve seat, which should be ready next week. meanwhile I have fitted a fibreglass rear short style mudguard in black (THANKS CHRIS), I have the UK one, but it just don't look right.
The petrol tank is getting dipped to remove any interior rust, before I give it a Frost treatment.
I will be looking to get the carbs ultrasonic cleaned, as they are the last grubby thing that needs doing.
Trial fit of second hand tank. Cyl head is just sat on top of barrels.
New chain and sprockets fitted.
