Conversely, too much runout and you won't have enuff travel in the lever to take the slack back up and work the brake.......... just saying

Tis true, though that's why a shakedown is called a shakedown!

Good idea GB, I think this will work just fine. Just need some proper bolts. Caliper and disc in order now too..

Got my new rear disc and caliper on today. The caliper actually sits fairly low down on the disc, but no room to move it any further up for the hub.. So it will just have to be like that for now. I could get a bigger disc in there though so an option for later..

You're definitely going to need a bigger disc in there Lee as you'll wear a step into your pads until they touch, plus your pads will be pressed on to the disc out-of-square. Without a bit of butchering of the lovely caliper bracket a replacement disc would probably be your only option, but luckily it shouldn't be financially painful as you'll probably find one from a different model that'll do the job. I had the same issue with mine before Christmas - the caliper was hitting the wheel with a standard-sized VFR disc, but on scouring a number of online disc catalogues I found that an early CBR1000 disc was 20mm larger in diameter. Job done! :D

That does look good though.... :)

Agreed Coose. I should have waited to order the disc :) The over racing instructions tell you to cut away some of the pads so they don't bottom out but sounds like a bodge to me.. Will have to measure up when I get home and figure one out. Away to board a plane for sunny Congo for a week :(

Blimey, Congo, who've you annoyed?

Yes, cutting away the pads is definitely a bodge as what's left won't be pushed square on to the disc. I for one use the rear brake a lot, so I like it to be right...
As pretty as it may be, why don't Over just make a bracket that fits?

The Goldfren catalogue is a bit of a pain to negotiate but it has all of the dimensions you'll need. On first look (through my phone whilst laid in bed) you may struggle to find something, but at least it'll while away the time whilst sitting in departures!

Very useful Coose cheers, I will study it on my 8 hour flight to my luxury destination ;)

Reason the bracket is like that is because the caliper can't move any further in on this wheel, the standard zephyr caiper being a 2 pot slider, so guess the whole solution relies on a bigger disc. Should be not a big deal though :)

Ah, I see, so the main bracket is for the stock caliper? I suppose that you could have a disc made if it came to it. It shouldn't be too pricey with it being quite simple.

Coose, no it's for a brembo but that's just as close as it can go to the wheel. I guess they planned that one would update to a bigger disc. Although does seem a little strange! Yeah I found somewhere That will do a custom for 80 quid which sounds ok to me

That's not too shabby, and at least your existing disc has value! :)

Few updates, I have made contact with a Zed specialist in Paris who speaks English and can repair my head. Hoorah! However he says the head needs to come off unfortunately :( at least it's a step forward though rather than having to ship it back to the UK.

Coose the chain alignment is checked with a laser and bang on the money! Well i had to turn the sprocket around to move in 3mm further but that little foresight worked a treat. Happy days!

Next step will be to get the head sorted and waiting on a few more bits from Dave to arrive to finish off.. Then will need to think about paint!

That's grand news about the alignment, and if I remember rightly that's what we expected? And good news about the head too, though a little annoying....
