Ready for rebuild
OK, back to the sensible stuff
I drove up to the 'big smoke' today and picked up my engine and carbs from DogsbolloxofZ1B, AKA Mike. Apart from a few small odds and sods these were the last pieces in the chain so I'm ready for the big rebuild now.
I have to say Mike is a master craftsman and a nice guy as well. The engine looks even better in the flesh, as do the carbs. Thanks Mike, and Mrs DB's for the tea towel I inherited
The engine threw up a few surprises with quite a few knackered bits and even a hole in the head casting inlet port. Mike tells me it looks to have a Z1A or B barrels and head even though the bottom end is from an A4 (going by the engine number) So I guess it is even more of a Z1b than I originally thought. And the carbs are early Z1 types with a couple of later bits from Z1b, so altogether it is quite a combo.
I'm hoping to spend at least one day this weekend working on it but will probably be more like a few hours snatched in between doing jobs for Mrs CS.

Never mind the jobs for Mrs CS, get on with the bike.
I wasn't sure about the black spokes Phil but right from the start I knew I didn't want a replica of an original (impossible anyway as the frame had been 'improved' somewhere along the line and loadsa non-original bits). I really like the way they turned out, it will be interesting to see how they look when it is all back together again. As for Mrs CS, I've learned not to mess with her
