All Hd studs use the same 10mm threads as the std studs, there is nothing wrong with that.
It is the waisted portion between the threaded ends on the std studs that is the weakness but you will never see the benefit of the HD ones anyway unless you are running a really serious motor.
I guess it was all going too well. I managed to sort out the cam timing despite the absence of marks on the exhaust cam. The cams are aftermarket and I really should get around to measuring the lift to see if they are higher than standard. As I tightened the last of the cam cap bolts, it just kept on turning....
After a quick look at the help section, I ordered some thread repair coils. At least it's one of the outer bolts, so access is good. This is only the second stripped thread on the bike (the other was a spark plug) which is good going for what started out as an old wreck.
I've also glued some magnets into the rear disc and tapped a hole in the caliper carrier for the speedo sensor. I even managed to fit the Dyna S ignition despite instructions that would embarrass IKEA. Other jobs done include: fitting the pillion pegs, working out how to fit the Bulldock front mudguard, fitting the oil pump and sump pan and making a start on the wiring. I was hoping to fire the bike up in the next few days but the cam cap and exhaust stud problems will put that back a few weeks.

seems you have spigots fitted for a slip on exhaust? If so just take the copper gaskets out and replace with some exhaust sealant, wipe excess off before fitting exhaust or fit allen bolts instead of the studs as you should not need to take them out again.
