Yes! simple job and it would ensure that the disc carrier face is parallel with the wheel mount.

Hi Guys, been a while since I posted and update. Not finished yet but few things have been progressing..

Buzzard took a look at my discs and did a spot on job of machining the carriers to straighten them out! Unfortunately it looks like not only the carriers were slightly off but also the discs are slightly warped!

Image

One is now 0.44mm runout and the other 0.10mm. I think 0.1 is almost acceptable (athough not ideal) but the 0.44mm is way too much..

Image

For now I will move on and come back to these, I will need to get new discs made to fit the carrier, I see someone called the disc Doctor that may be able to do them, but not sure yet.. Other option is just to bin them and add them to the total loss of KipKawa crap that I bought last year..

Also have all wiring 90 percent done now and was planning to fire her up today, but found that my battery had died a death over winter so need to order a new one tonight.

All controls done nearly, got my frando leavers etc fitted and switchgear.

Image

Right now I have some GPz750 clocks on but not sure what I will eventually fit, I keep changing my mind. Current plan is ZRX clocks if I can get a set of black ones at the right price.

Image

Also clutch pusher fitted and I have decided to change to a smaller offset on the front sprocket (3/8" now) as I had loads of room for the 160 rear tyre and will give some better clearance at the frame.

Image

I got a one off sprocket from B&C, tried to make it as period as possible by keeping it solid..

Image

I decided to bite the bullet and order Tomforde Rearsets, (which have been lost in the post for 3 weeks.. Grrrrr) so I did a deal with Coose for my KipKawa ones and he did some machining on my hub carrier. Which is on its way back now :)

Yes nothing wrong with the clocks.
9500 red line is good and you will not want to go much over 150mph anyways

Ok you've convinced me clocks are staying.. :) Could just do with a new inner housing for them.. Will keep my eyes peeled.

Just back in country after a couple of weeks working away and my new battery had arrived.. So this morning the J got fired up for the first time.. I was amazed how quiet it is with the Kerker, not at all how I though! I noticed that number 1 manifold was leaking slightly so I went ahead and tightened the stud up slightly, next to no force of it and disaster struck!! There is a thread insert in there which has left hardly any material to keep the strength! Stress. Guess I will have to pull the head now and get it welded up... Grrrr..

Was it helicoiled in on the wonk? Pulled sideways when tightened up? If you have access to a tame and talented tig welder, it might be just as easy or no less hard to drop the engine out!!!! Just a thought. Those 1170 one piece cometic head gaskets are about £70, possible cam cover gasket £20 and base gasket to go, if you disturb it may all need re-doing. Feel for you.

Al, I think the header was slightly out of line, but really no pressure applied and crack.. I was thinking about seeing if someone could sort it with engine in one piece.. There is a Zed guy south of Paris somewhere, he does engines I might have to brave my bad French. Or just trailer the whole bike down and point and grunt and see if he has a solution :) Bummer but there you go, just another challenge :)

Great build mate, I actually said "oh no" with the picture of the head, the wife came in as she thought something was wrong!
