Its been a while since i've done anything worthy of note and there's a miriad of niggly bits you can't see that need sorting before its finally finished. However i have at last decided on a paint scheme and have been preparing the body work for the event. In the last posts i had modded the tank to take the race filler but wasn't happy where the hole intersected with one of the old spot welds towards the front of the tank which held the original cap mount. The metal in this area is very thin and slightly distorted and although it does straighten out and seal when the cap is bolted on i have visions of the paint cracking so decided to create a solid flange that will take the cap and not flex when bolted up.
I machined up this 3mm steel ring
[
Which was then bolted flat to the tank
Then pre heated the tank with an hot air stripper to reduce the heat differential and limit the risk of distortion when the ring was brazed in place
And that i think is it for the bodywork , Just the addition of a breather and i'm ready for the paint which i hope to get away in the next week or two.

Another unplanned mod is to the kickstart which clobbered the toe peg of the brake lever. I had already made the footrest hinge up out of the way but obviously things never are that simple. I did toy with the idea of hinging the toe peg as well but decide that was a bit extreme and finally went for the easy option . I've had to heat the lever and bend it out near the pivot then bring the other end back up so it sits at 90deg to the frame as it should when swung out. This does bring the lever quite far out now so to combat any tendancy to twist or bend i've introduced a strengthening plate that as well as beefing up the shaft length ways is also positioned diagonally along the lever to resist twisting. Just got to get this powder coated and that's another item off the to do list.

It's not just the engineering skills that are highlighted during this project, it's the unique thought of overcoming every problem thrown at him
Amongst all the other work, the fuel tank filler is bloody excellent.
