Ah... that explains the lack of a Gremlin Racetech website. Ta.
If those marks on the bore have been caused by acidic oil sitting there for years I might need a crank too
'spose I'd better strip the rest of the motor before making any decisions.
PS - I got the APE 1260 thing wrong; it does need sleeves in the standard block so as everyone said, 1170 is the biggest without spending megabucks.
Oh Poo.... that's only 7% up on the stock 1089

The 1170 is a good size - much better than a 1260 which can be problematic

And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!

As is always the way, life and w*rk intruded and norralots been done recently.
However, I did finish splitting the cases and found this on the bench
which has come from here
Look at the colour of the ally I guess this has been adrift for some time or about to go awol and removing the stud was the last straw.
Installing a stud back into the crankcase there's only one(ish) thread that's exposed at the bottom so I guess I'll just ignore it unless anyone knows better ?

You need to get this sorted properly, I had all kinds of problems with my B2 with the same problem. Oil would track up the threads and go everywhere. I had to get it welded in the end (it was not the outside oil feed studs too)
As always seems to be the way of such things, this project stalled with w*rk and other stuff. However the deluge seems to have slowed to a steady stream so I've found a teeny bit of time to get back on to it again.
The frame is all stripped down and due to take a trip to Harris to get the battery box welded back on, some extra lugs and offset steering head cups fitted, and a blast and repaint. Lester Harris has also said that he can get a standard Magnum 2 fairing and a few other bits made up for me which is pretty good for a bike they made in the 80's.
I've also managed to collect my engine cases from SEP in Kegworth after dropping them off last June for some larger holes to be installed in the block, vapour blast and repaint (don't ever tell them 'no rush'; they'll believe you! although to be fair I'd not have had the time to do much if they had turned the job around quickly).
So now I've got a few weeks to get the engine built back up while the frame is on holiday in Hertford.

Well the frame's now in the hands of Steve Harris.
While he's working on that, I started on the engine rebuild by fitting the lower crankcase into the engine holder that I've just treated myself to.
It's not a bad bit of kit (made by Tag-Z in Wales) but they cocked up slightly on the design as it won't rotate 180 without temporarily removing two of the slidey arm clamping screws (stop me if I'm using too many technical terms here) as they hit the uprights when you rotate it.
Still it's better than propping the engine up on bricks while working on it
