After some research, I found these bellmouths in Japan. They have a simple fine mesh filter, are the right diameter to fit round the outside of carb inlets and are short enough to clear the side panels. Third time lucky!
I also fitted an inline fuel filter which you can see in the second pic. There was some cr*p on the float valve seat which caused the carbs to overflow and leak all over the garage floor. I thought the tank was clean inside but I guess you can never get all the dust out. The filter is transparent so I can monitor the cleanliness of the fuel.
I have also fitted a small rear plate, so all that's left is a redesigned tail undertray as the Mk1 design is not stiff enough. I'll probably leave that job for the winter though and just enjoy riding it in the meantime. I parked it in Wimbledon today and a guy came over and started saying how he used to have a Z650, what a lovely bike etc. It certainly isn't a bike for a recluse, it gets attention every time I take it out.
