Sadly I don't think the RR is the problem.
I just consume too much power for the generator. Its only 20 amps at 5000rpm.... how fast is that in top gear?
I'm hoping that there is a heavy duty alternative out there and then I can reduce the load a little and it will be ok.

Jeff Saunders does the same for $79.99

Yes, but no stock and back order not allowed!
I'm a bit stuck at the moment as the Electrex don't supply their uprated stator- that had problems with them being too powerful, and Westcountry windings don't think they will get much more out of it.
Hmm.
Could I get electrex to tell westcountry windings to tell them how to wind their discontinued uprated version???
Or buy one off the shelf from the US?

Ordered a replacement fuel pump. Going to have to squeeze it in somehow because its 20mm longer but at least has the same outlet fittings.
It consumes 5.2 amps not 10amps. So this should solve my power problems.

Well I put a lower power fuel pump on- that's 5amps instead of 10amps. The bike will rebuild its charge now quickly whenever it is ridden- on tick over it decays slowly, however with the light on it will maintain the charge at over 2000rpm but under that it will decay. Also, when it has decayed it wont rebuild the charge with the light on.
Hmmm, it looks like the LED headlight is necessary!
There is something about the resistive load of the headlight that is just too much for it. The city light is (and tail light obviously) is ok, but the extra load of the headlight is not.

Hi John
Could you go the route of a drive belt pulley and a small alternator.
Some i have seen are about 4" dia or so and can do 50-90 amps or so..
Maybe even sourced from the new Kwaks as they now mount a pulley driven alternator behind the engine..not sure there output amps though without looking.

There maybe though a rpm limit to an alternator though.

Life shouldn't be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, cigar in one hand, beer in the other, body used up, totally worn-out and screaming, "WOO HOO, what a ride!"
