That sounds like an excellent idea. Would copper high temp silicone gasket do the trick? I've already got some of that and I could still use the current studs. I plan to use aerotight nuts and there's just not quite enough thread for the locking ring to bite properly.
I doubt that will take the heat, this is what I meant:

Rich, thanks for your help. I fitted 40mm allen bolts in the end. They shouldn't need to come out (as you say) and it makes it easier to judge how far the copper gaskets have compressed. Have now fitted the exhaust, which clears the wider swingarm easily. Just that stripped cam cap thread to sort out now before I try and start it up.
The engine is still causing problems. I drilled out the damaged cam cap thread, inserted a thread repair coil (which is by far the most nerve-wracking part of the project to date) and thought I was done. Then I discovered that my black billet camshaft plugs don't sit flush with the top of the cylinder head casting. Looks like it's going to be plain rubber ones instead.
Still, I have got the exhaust fitted, and also the hydraulic clutch assembly, the rotor/stator and the seat. Best of all, I have stuck on the sculpture logos on the sides of the swingarm. I got various bits back from powder coating by Triple S and now have a smart oil filler cap, oil gallery plug and front brake splitter. To make up for the frustration with the engine, I decided to fit the tank, seat and tail piece for the first time and wheel it out for a few pics. This afternoon I plan to soak the clutch plates (new EBC ones) in oil and then finish off the clutch. The handlebars are Renthal streetfighter and I haven't decided whether they are quite right or not.
The exhaust is a PMC Monaka in stainless steel. The centre of the exhaust mounts to one of the centre stand brackets and the silencer clears the swingarm perfectly. This part of the project was causing me major problems and luckily it all seems to have worked out OK.

Hi london Z1
Your Z1 is just going to be outstanding very very well done !!!!!!
It is so very correct buildt and with the very best of custom parts there is
and the colour cheme is butiful !!!
With all respect, and maybe you allready have thought about it but have you considered a other saddle? I like the one below or the one I have on my bike
to go with the Japanese custom style bikes.
But hey !! thats only my opinion anyway !! will work fine with the original also
This is the new seat from Bulldock racing the best!!
The one I have is from K-factory and is almost equal to the PMC one

Thanks for the comments Morten. The two things I am still unsure about are the seat and the bars. I agree the seat doesn't look quite right and I have been thinking that black bars would look better. Luckily these are quite easy to change and I think I'll finish the rest of the bike before deciding. Despite appearances, there's still lots to do before it's ready for an MOT.
Beautiful !!!!!!!!!!!!!
LondonZ1, that is one stunning looking bike you have built - love it !!
