Ollie,
Any history on the bike would be useful as although the lad had it for eons he never kept any history on it.
He told me he got it from Manchester way!
keefleef,
Thx for the kind offer but I have a couple of 1000 ones but I might keep this one for my special and stick z1 sidepanel's on it to upset the purists.
It does look like an original though as it has the made in Japan markings.

zedsrus:"i don't know man ,i just got here myself !!"
Everyone wants the tailpiece, I'll probably use a 1000 one anyway and hang onto this one for now.
Done some odds and sods,
Stripped and cleaned mostly but have
Replaced the forks,
Replaced the yokes with z650 ones, new head bearings,
Replaced the bars and the headlight brackets,
Fitted a Dresda and a new battery box (both newly powdercoated)
Spent ages cleaning the back wheel and crud off the hub, sorting the rear master cylinder and brake caliper and fitted a spare chrome torque arm and a few stainless bolts.
Coming along slow but good hopefully have it up and ready (was going to say finished but that's never the case)for the 17th Dec as a early christmas present to myself!
Next job front calipers for sorting.
Busy busy !!!

The idea of this clean up is to get the bike roadworthy using bits I have lying around and not to spend anything.
I have had to order new seals etc for the front calipers so that bite hard, but some things have to be right.
Fitted some spare shocks last night,
and Rebuilt the broken clocks with some spares,
and have dropped them down to below the yokes to compliment the clipon's,
Could not put them as low as I would like otherwise I lose all adjustment on the clip on position but quite pleased with the look.
Thought great
That's the front sorted, and thought its only 23:00 I will put the bodywork on for a look?
I then discovered the lock stops need adjusting as the forks hit the tank
and the seat does not really align nicely with the tail piece,
Two hours later and I now need to strip out the front end and figure out how to tidy up the rear and mount a light?
I keep trying to say it does'nt matter what it's like just get it on the road, but I just cannot help myself trying to make it right!!

rear
Been working on the rear to tidy up the back and get it to align better with the seat unit and new rear light.
Its getting there slowly.
Calipers and master cylinder have also been fitted and need bleeding once the front wheel is fitted which took a blooming age to clean up.
Hopefully get some more done this evening!!

Looking great there...but isn't the speedo from a Z650, it only goes up to 140 mph Confused
I bet they are 650 yokes as well as the forks hit the tank.
Kev,
I have fitted 650 yokes to reduce the offset and quicken the steering,
I have sleeved the lock stop on the frame to limit the steering lock to fix the tank fork interference problem.
The 650 yoke mod is an old proddy racing trick and so I thought I would give it a try and see how much difference it makes. If its crap I'll put its original yokes back in.

Be interested to see how this pans out as I also have a set of 650 yokes for this very same purpose

And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!

I was thinking of sticking my nice 17" akronts in this as well but thought this may be too much to soon with the fork mod and the zrx shocks. (about 10mm longer than standard)
So I am going to stick with the standard size rubber see what its like and if all is well may try my 17"s in the summer!
