Patrick
Your rebuild is coming on fine.

I would do a bit more work on some of the casings, cyliders and fins before it all goes back together fully though.

Now is the easiest time to get the old paint traces off and do a little polishing on the cam end caps etc. Original Z1 engine paint was prone to flaking so the more you can get off now the better it will look when finished.

My Z1 engine is not painted - but if yours will be it may be easier to get that done before you fit the new gaskets, whilst it is in pieces.

Best wishes from Mark

Patrick i hope you cleaned the gasket adhesive from your pistons before fully fitting the barrels as this could cause a problem with the rings sealing + piston seizure

on another point my anti virus picked up a trojan on your website link

Zedhead asked, What is the pink stuff that is sprayed on Patrick?

Computa said it is 'LOCTITE 3020 a liquid, in an aerosol can, formulated as an adhesive/sealant which dries quickly to form a highly tacky film.

It is designed for holding pre-cut gaskets in place during assembly and improves sealing and gasket preformance in operation.

This product is recommended for use on all types of pre-cut gaskets including transmission gaskets, head gaskets, clutch assembly and differential gaskets made of rubber, cork, paper, metal and asbestos.'

Thanks Crofty. Interested in the forum view of this stuff? Gaskets lubed or bareback?

I guess it's not good on pistons?

if you are going to put extra sealant onto a gasket please seal the gasket of the bike + away from moving parts. sorry to say this but this thread is almost like a joke . there are enough members + posts on this site to show how to do the job correctly

Hi There
Here's what Dave Marsden told me about cam cover gaskets and any others where they are going to need occasional removal for major servicing -

Smear grease lightly onto the gasket faces or the casing face - will still seal up ok but prevents the stuck together syndrome which rips the gaskets apart when removed.

I have used this on cam cover and sump gaskets so far with no probs.

Cheers from Mark
