In my last post I said that I was going to see Mikey to pick up my polishing and plating. Mikey was his usual smiling self when I arrived
Everthing had been individually wrapped and boxed with much care
The items had been sent to Mikey in several deliveries so there was alot to bring back. When I got home I unloaded and unwrapped - it was like Christmas
Everything had come up to a supurb finish
This fork leg was particularly bad being heavily scored after the lowside - no sign of it now.
I really like the finish on the levers
I also unwrapped the chroming - these are the big bits
and this is the rest
The finish is top quality - both mudguards had issues, incuding dents. Mikeys skill has sorted out everything

Having to do this in stages - I am having grief with Photobucket
The finish on the individual items is excellent
Decided to keep the centre stand and side stand chromed as was the way I got the bike
Also unwrapped the zinc plating - this is top notch as weel with much of it looking like chrome
The finish bears close examination
Mikeys attention to detail is great
This bracket was especially corroded
I pick up the engine next week. Martin has taken some pictures but has only shown me one - what a tease

Thanks for all the kind words and encouragement - next installation here. Its been quite a week so far - words like epic, legend and quality are due to follow very shortly...
Went to Martin's on Monday to pick up the engine; I managed to find enough fuel in town to make the round trip without having to risk refuelling. Set the cruise control to 70mph and did the 225 miles to Hull in 3hours 20 minutes - doing 51mpg into the bargain.
I was met by the sight of the lump on Martins workshop bench
Martin set to work fitting the polished cases
It did not take him long to build up the engine
The carbs were reassembled with new cold start tubes - thanks to Geoff/Paul
I also dropped off a plated mudguard from Mikey...
Back in the boot for the journey home - a sight cleaner than when it came!!
Couldn't resist a shot of Martins beautiful Z1 before I left
A funny thing happened on the way back - I got into town when a Z900A4 pulled across me and into a front garden next to a layby. Not having seen another one in Ipswich I pulled over and had a word with the rider - without letting on that I had one...this was his bike
Then I asked him if he wanted to see what I had in the boot - still not having told him of my interest. The eyes were rolloing by this time at another saddo wannabe
His face was a picture when he saw the lump
I couldnt resist pointing out that my engine was cleaner
I said at the top of this post that certain words would be used - legend has to be the best description for Martin. The bloke is absolutely brilliant - emailed me all the way through the strip down and rebuild, sourced the best place/price for the parts, polished the carb tops, provided all the used parts, added some and delivered everything on time. Then as I left he gave me a CD with over 50 pictures on it of the strip down and rebuild.
And he makes a damn good cup of tea
