The o rings arrived today as well as the fake Kawabond so I`m ready for crankcase reassembly as soon as Mikey sends the case bolts.
I spoke to Dogs yesterday and he said the head should be ready for collection on Friday. However.....................

When Doug Cox blasted the head they did not blank off the guides and contaminated them. Cross............bloody right. We`ll see what he says about that to him as he was told we would be using them and 1 had been replaced as worn anyway. So that`s another £80 on new guides then :|

Well done so far. I am not a believer in vapour blasting as I have said many times. However, I just cant get why this guy some of you use to do your blasting does not blank of any threads etc. Plastic insert bungs cost pennies and someone(maybe an angry you!!) should tell him, if he wants to continue offering this service he should do it right. I saw your pics of you cleaning out your threads and you should not have to do that.Imagine if you miss any grit and it gets in your oil! I think that would be called grinding paste!. Have you ever tried valve guide inserts? Fantastic alternative, out last original guides by years and no need to re-cut seats afterwards. Total cost is about £120 per cylinder head.

That's a pity Chris, still, if you replace them now, it's done. Had you had the one replaced at the beginning of this rebuild or previously? You seem to be moving pretty quickly on your rebuild.

I entrusted the head work to Dogs because he has the experience and the contacts.

I am disappointed and surprised as Cox`s do lots of this work and should have followed instructions. We`ll see what they say !

Gez. I remember years ago when CMM had an early form of blasting done by a local company and their CBX motor lasted less than 50 miles before it self destructed. They reckoned the ultrasonic effect dislodged bits from the cases but after talking to Maine I felt confident that I could clear all the rubbish.
How else would you clean brush painted hammerite from cases ?

Crofty. This is taking a frustrating amount of time as the motor has been sitting on the bench for an inordinate amount of time and the sun has begun to shine

Hi Chris, i'm relatively new to blasting and media type cleaning of engine parts. Just wondered what it takes to contaminate the valve guides and why they need replacing? Jim

There is a medium contained within water which is blasted at very high pressure.

A bit like sand blasting but less severe.

Sadly severe enough to mark the guides. I have not seen the head yet but it is with an engineering company who are trustworthy and if they say they are damaged then......................

soda blasting is very good and leaves a more natural finish to the aluminium, and just washes off. You can also get the engine nice and shiney after blasting if thats your thing. Gerry, our President saw some I had done and has now had his engine done so hopefully he will post some pictures soon. Soda is a much safer option in my opinion with no risk involved and very cheap.

I wonder if it`s something like that they use ?

When I was cleaning out threads with the bottle brush I thought the bristles were breaking off as what came out was translucent white !

I got the bolts from Mikey today and fitted the cases together. The Z Power gasket stuff worked well and I just wiped off the admittedly small amount of excess with brake cleaner.

I nearly forgot about the oil bypass ball and spring thingy  but it all went together okay.

Off to Dogs at the weekend to fit the barrels and collect the head.

Things are looking good and I`m a lot more confident of being done soon. When the barrels are on Maine said he`ll help me to lift the motor in.
