Donington Park will host the 2013 Classic Motorcycle Festival on August 9th, 10th and 11th providing an exciting summer weekend of classic motorcycle racing including the Lansdowne Series which is the premier championship for classic GP bikes. Major club displays, trade stands, grasstrack and scrambles for historic motorcycles, plus the opportunities to get on and try new motorcycling experiences – something for all the family!
This all-new event will be a major motorcycle festival with appeal for racers, riders, off roaders, traders, suppliers and manufacturers all based in and around this famous race circuit. Donington will be working closely with the Classic Motorcycle Racing Club (CRMC) to deliver such an extensive line up and will enjoy support from Bauer Media’s market leading title, ‘Classic Bike’.
There will be three days of spectacular action focusing on the ‘Glorious Era’s of Grand Prix Racing’, especially the 60’s and late 70’s so expect to see H****, Gilera and MV multi’s, plus the “Best of British†including Manx Norton’s, Matchless G50’s, AJS 7Rs and much more; from an era when Mike Hailwood, Giacomo Agostini and Phil Read dominated.
We will be celebrating the 40th anniversary of Norton winning the F750 TT with a monocoque JPS Norton, ridden by Peter Williams and hopefully Peter will be attending to join the iconic JPS Norton in the paddock over the weekend.
The later era will feature Suzuki RG500’s, TZ Yamaha’s and their contemporaries as ridden by Barry Sheene, Kenny Roberts and Chas Mortimer et al. Displays of these bikes will be very accessible and many of the same bikes will parading around the circuit with racing stars from that classic period. Our classic racing will feature all sizes of bikes from 125cc to 1300cc and of course the ever exciting sidecar brigade. You will be able to see bikes like the original Manx’s and G50’s right through to AMA type Superbikes like the Eddie Lawson Kawasaki’s and Graham Crosby type Suzuki’s.
The Classic Motorcycle Festival will have a charity partner; 'The Joan Seeley Pain Relief Memorial Trust', in memory of the late wife of motorcycle legend Colin Seeley. The Trust’s patron is none other than Murray Walker and the trust has been supporting specialist work in local hospitals for over thirty years, including The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham.
The Exhibition Centre will host exhibitions by the Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club as well as the Classic Bike Club Show whilst the Burton & Leicester Grasstrack Association will feature in spectacular action in the McLeans and Starkeys area. There will be more action to be confirmed, including; enjoyable club meetings for you to join, trial ride outs, side shows and an auction plus music, food and biker friendly camping available.

Donington Park’s Managing Director, Christopher Tate, said:
“Classic motor cycle racing will provide the exciting, spectacular core of this wonderful Summer Festival weekend. And onto that great base, with our friends from CRMC doing their usual excellent job, we will be building a wide range of other attractions for everyone from the dedicated bike enthusiast to a family on their first ever visit to Donington. This is set to be a minimum 3 year plan to create and build up a special Summer Festival of Motorcycling here at Donington Park, and we have every expectation that we can amply fill an existing gap in the annual calendar by providing something ‘different’ and fun, at great value pricesâ€.
The Chairman of the Classic Motor Cycle Racing Club, Ian Johnson, said:
“After the amazing success of our Classic Motorcycle Event at Donington Park this year the CRMC is delighted to partner Donington Park and Bauer Media to put on an even bigger and broader event in 2013. For 2013 we are going to focus on, ‘Glorious Era’s of Grand Prix Racing’, especially the 60’s and late 70’s so expect to see H****, Gilera and MV multi’s, plus good old British iron in the shape of Manx Norton’s, Matchless G50’s and so on, the sort of bikes ridden by Mike Hailwood, Giacomo Agostini, Phil Read and Peter Williams.
Also for the 2013 Festival, the later era will feature Suzuki RG500’s, TZ Yamaha’s and the like as ridden by Barry Sheene, Kenny Roberts and Chas Mortimer. Displays of these bikes will be very accessible and many of the same bikes will parading round the circuit with stars from the classic period. You will be able to see bikes like the original Manx’s and G50’s right through to AMA type Superbikes like the Eddie Lawson Kawasaki’s and Graham Crosby type Suzuki’s. If Classic racing bikes interest you at all then Donington Park, one of the greatest short circuits in the world, next August is the place to be - I can’t wait."

have been last couple of years ,really good do , you can get up close to the bikes and riders , not just see the from behind a fence , was talking to terry rymer last year . he was saying on a race day people often don't like to talk to fans , autographs , photos etc , because they focus on the races , thats what they are paid to do . but on events like this and 1000 bike festival etc , they can have a laugh and a joke with fans and other racers about old races , rivalries . how some bikes were better than others , and another thing terry said was events like this is away of thanking the fans for thier support over the years , because without the paying public , what would be the point ? cheers marlin
