FARO 2013
Just a a quick post to get a feel for who may have been in the past and who may be going next year

Best run in recent years, Faro 2,500 miles, roads to die for. Applecross (NW 500) also awesome roads, current bikes, Z1, GPZ1100, ZRX1100, HD Fat bob.
I flew down in 2008 with the mrs and met up with some mates who rode down there. Really good weekend, saw Gary Moore, there are 1000's of interesting bikes and people. Very friendly, hot weather, cheap beer. I forget the exact cost of a ticket but an absolute bargain for what you get back. Non stop entertainment and chaos 24hrs a day. Thoroughly recommended and hopefully one year I will ride over there. It's a short walk from the airport too. Excellent experience.
1979 Z1000ST
Working on building the shed rained off, tea break.
Not to interested in flying, as to me the run there and back for me, is the main thing, the actual rally is just somewhere to get to, in my eyes.
So four things I have to consider
1: Am I fit enough, probably.
2: Can I get enough cash, possibly (been saving since last June) after the Kelso washout.
3: Will the bike make it, well used to go to the Bol d;or every year on my Zed, 500 miles a day 3 days to get there, weekend in the middle, and the same back, 3000 plus, but in those days daily riding was in order and engines were torn apart and rebuilt often so you knew them inside out, dont know if I would get the old Zed used enough and reliable enough in time. That leaves the ZRX, more to go wrong the bastard would not fire up today......sell both the bastads...
4: The time, Two weeks will cover it. should be ok there

I went with back street hero's mag a few years ago. sailed from portsmouth on sat t time, arr bilbao 8 am monday morning. They took 3 days to get there, but i only stopped one night with them on way down as me sister had a villa about 30 mins away from faro so i stopped there till they arrived at rally then met up with them.
rally was good though not much to do in the afternoons unless you like sardines. 2 bands on fri and 2 on sat along with the custom show and strippers. If you stop monday night the beer (bottled) is free (to get rid of it all), You buy i book of vouchers for the beer then exchange one for a bottle etc.
Then we came back with them and took 3 days to get back to bilbao, sailing home thurs afternoon and arr in portsmouth about 5 ish on fri t time.
They had campsites already book there and back but most had a hotel aswell if you didn't want to camp, some have chalet's to rent. One guy didn't take a tent he just had a hammock that he tied between the trees next to our tents.
I went on me 2003 z1000 but would prob go on me zrx if i went again. the sleeves on me jacket zip off I took them off in bilbao and put them back on when we got back to bilbao. 2 weeks with no rain just blue skys.

Two weeks of Sun
This is more like it, how much were these chalets, I've still got my green string hammock which rolls up into a ball from the bol d or days , will be taking the wife, and a light weight tent, so the costs are going to climb (no hammock for her I am afraid)
but I could poss stretch to the odd night, of something for her as it will be her birthday.

The Santander ferry is a waste of time and money, you can ride to the French Spanish border from St Malo in an easy day and get a night in a good hotel instead of aboard a cramped ferry.
Takes the same amount of time overall, of course it's further to ride but to my mind I go to ride so that's a bonus.
Done it on a Harley with Grubby from MTC on trips to Faro, twice, and Marrakech once.
Got some stories from those trips, like the fire extinguisher in the room - a powder one, damn near killed me.....

Thats us managed to get the holiday paid for, and the fuel (£350) just the food and spending to go, looking good, I so need this good weather, normally this weekend I would be camping out at the Thistle rally, age is a bastard makes certain things less appealing camping in the snow (snowing outside as I type) saying that we are usually pissed all weekend that makes it better, well untill you sober up eh
roll on FARO
