classic bike track days rides again

#1 PostAuthor: rc30rob » Sun Jan 08, 2012 10:02 pm

evening Folks ,
some of you may know me as my 11r was on the stand in 2010 at Stafford and many many moons ago i was the editor for the Z owners mag (eeerrr 20 years ago bloomin eck ).
As you may be aware we ran a few trackdays last year for classic bike,s as these are our passion and we felt other than a couple of events there wasn't anywhere for us to take our bikes out with like minded riders .
Having given some thought to it and asking you riders what you wanted we have made a change to the tracks for this year.
All are on Fridays ,well come on folks it is part of the weekend isnt it
we have
Cadwell 27thApril ,back there as its a really popular riders track.

mallory 29th June,
which is the day before the crmc race weekend so its a good excuse to stay and watch some classic racing (no they are not all old knockers your grandad binned when he was a kid)there is plenty of fast old brits (lovely triples ) and loads of old jap stuff racing which includes the new practical sportsbike /Avon proddie race.

and the cherry on the cake
Donington 3 August which is a noisy day ,this means there is no noise limit but all bikes must be silenced .
now this is a very rare day as noisy fridays are next to impossible to get as donny have to have a quiet day before a race meeting and all race meetings are at the weekends so we are very greatfull to donington for allowing us to do this.
so all you lot have to do is make a feeble excuse to the wife/boss/husband or whatever and slope off for a day on track.
hopefully as with last year folk will be turning up on thursday which means its bbq time ,a chat and a beer as we want the social side to build around these days .
thanks rob
oh and thanks to young Jerry for letting me post up here.

Quite fancy another go at Donnington. Last time I was there was for one of the Ron Haslam Race School sessions (a retirement pres from one of my contractors). Great circuit.

Oh and I love the "Location: midlands ,near Birminghamistan" bit.

well by all means do it as we are trying to get something going thats a little different to the usual track day but a little less frantic than the festival of thousand bikes (which i have to say is ace and i do it every year)
To get a friday at Donny is not easy ,but a noisy day (when they do have a lot of ear ole from the the council) is a real coup for us and there is no doubt it is one of the premier tracks there is .
cheers rob

Well I'm booked.

The noise thing swayed me.

Tell me, will there be noise testers there so I can get an indication of how noisy my bike is.. for other track days?

Fantastic
glad you are coming ,we thought the noise limit would make a difference .
Ill see what we can do about testing the bike for noise on the day ,just remind me closer to the date.
I may be able to borrow a decent ,calibrated meter .
We dont have one as its the tracks that normally do the testing but not all tracks test the same so be carefull .
Claire (my other half) races a gpz 550 with crmc ,now it has a road baffled harris and was tested at Cadwell at 96 then at Snetterton at 98 db ,its not much of a difference but it could be enough .
Most tracks are 105db in the week but mallory is 98 at the weekends ,snetterton is now 102 db for bikes any time and donny is i believe 98 on the quiet days (which dont really follow a pattern) ,you always need to check .
A tip though is always warm the motor up fully before testing as it makes a big difference.
cheers rob

oi this stops right here
(stamping of feet ,red faced and angry of staffordshire writes )
I have a foot in both camps(well all 4 ,that means i have 4 feet ,im digging a hole here ar'nt i )
its not a crime you know ,mind you the H**** (there i have said it again) 1100r owners club do get shirty when i tell them that i have a real 11r and it has kwak on the tank .
And as for you Mr wilson ,i have just seen your brilliant z650( very very well done ) ,have the others seen it yet mmmmm
Desertion from the camp can carry a heavy penalty i fear
SHHHH I wont tell em :D
Anyway back in the real world ,the only way round no tacho is a little tool that some of the CRMC scrutineers have which is like a tuning fork /clock spring ,it is set at a certain point ,twanged like a Jews harp and held against the motor ,i think it then stops vibrating at the correct revs/frequency,but we aint got one i have only seen one at crmc scrutineering bays

ahhh well thats another story ,we will do as much as we can for you but building your bikes may be stretching it a little :D .
tell me about it I have yet to start on mine i seem to be working on Claires race bikes most of the time. :(
If she aint bining them she is knocking big end bearings out or bending cranks( isnt realy her fault im just making a man fuss).
I guess Floyd it garage time mate ,thats what you have to do ,which is not funny in this weather in an unheated garage bbbbrrrrr did that as a kid
