Festival of 1000 bikes

#1 PostAuthor: Robw » Sun Jul 17, 2011 9:53 am

Hi, last weekend I went to Mallory Park near Leicester to take part in the Festival of 1000 bikes. This consisted of 1200 road bikes riding around the Classic circuit on Saturday and watching race bikes ridden by the likes of Ago, Kenny Roberts and Korky Ballington.
On Saturday I thrashed my Lawson around the circuit, I had 3 sessions of about 15 mins each. The sessions were split into size of bikes and I was in the very fast group, this had bikes such as Gpz900's Ducati 900 desmo's etc.
My bike went really well, only getting really going over 6000 rpm when the Kehin carbs and all the rest of the tuning work started to work together. I took it easy in the first session as I wasn't sure about the engine, but after a while I got more confident and then let it go down the straight. The bike is very quick and takes off when it goes above 6000 rpm with me having to be very aware on whats happening on the rev counter.
It was a fantastic weekend and I am looking forward to next year.

ahh my baby ,thats me on my ELR or as its known as the LDR
i think we were in the same groups .
Yes its a fantastic weekend and its great to get the old bikes out on track and use them ( they are not just for show ) and this is why we are putting on our classic bike track days so we have somewhere to take our bike without 200mph missiles up your chuff .
I think some folk have thought we are just business men /trackday operators trying to make a quick buck but we really do ride our bikes .
