VJMC show Uttoxeter

And another thing, please don't think I throw my dummy out any time someone offends me. I usually get some comments or critique from the guys at the shows, but as they are there helping and supporting the club, I respect their comments, especially as most peoples ideas are better than mine! On a final note, how guilty do you all feel, the fact that Steve F was sticking up for the club!
I for one thought that the standard of the bikes on the club stand was second to none. Paul Scanlons recently finished bike looked amazing.
I am one of the members guilty of presuming that only concours standard machines were required. I've always considered my own bike too much of an old mongrel to warrant precious space.
Maybe we could draw up some criteria for what type of bikes would look good and interesting at the shows.
ie, concours bikes
Standard used machines (unrestored with a patina of age).
Well modded bikes, specials etc.
I could be wrong but isn't there a few members with bikes that have a bit of sporting history ?
Isn't there also some members with long balls out drag bikes ?
Show the public the versatility of the legendary bikes we all like to drool over.
Well done and thanks for the effort Jerry.

Well this is my first post on this forum, I know the normal "way in" is to introduce yourself in the New Here section but not this time. The only reason I am here is because of the stand at the VJMC show.
The bikes on the stand were just georgeous and have convinced me I need a Z1 and this is the first step. So ignore the poo poers 'cos if nothing else you've got at least one convert.

We got more than one we got about eight new members which isn't bad for a first time event and apparently about the same as the first ever club appearance at Stafford many moons ago.
What Pasc is suggesting as criteria is what we always have at Stafford, Scotland, Northen Counties etc. As far as standard bikes go, and I'm sure anyone who knows what the VJMC in the main is like are like will understand, the concensus was that this Uttoxeter event really needed quality standard bikes. Having said that the country should be full of the things. The first post in the thread Jerry was asking for excellent later models - Z1R through to Z1100R/GPz. The oldest one we got was Phil's A4 for Saturday.
We all had a good weekend anyway.

I have to admit I looked at Jerrys post and thought
Late model - Check - 1980 Mk2 engined Z1RD3
Mint or better - no way would I describe it as that - assumed my bike not suitable.
If in the future you want a good but non-std and no way mint Z1R or a heavily modified Z1R please let me know i'd be very happy to help.

well i think you do a dam good job running the club jerry, every time i come over to your place you are up to your elbows in paper work either getting ready for a show or processing new members or renewals and getting them out after the show .
just a little thought as a mag filler ,how about if when you get new members fill in there form to join they have a blank area at the bottom of the page where they put in there own words why they are joining what model z they have and what they aim to do with it in the future ,projects ect and then that could go into the next mag issue ,which would be good for them to think they where having an input to the club straight away and also give them a chance to ask for any help on rebuilds or tips and point them in a good way so they are not throwing money away and that way they will feel like part of our z1 family.which then hopefully will make the club a little more freindly so that they dont feel silly asking a non tech problem.

Jerry I am not too sure how to start this, as being a big bald goatee bearded Northerner the word comes hard but I am SORRY if you have taken any of my comments and those of the members as criticism of your efforts for the club. The paperwork alone for stands at Stafford and the like would drown most of us, let alone the work involved sorting out the logistical side of things. I really do believe it has just been a case of members not believing their bikes are up to show standard. However in future I am sure you will be inundated with offers of all types from the minters to the munters and any in between.
Being a lover of the none standard I appreciate the work that goes into bikes like Rich's Harris, Colin's Rickman, Iain's Foale and Pauls MOTO MARTIN (steady now take a tablet she's the boss and knows best) As well as the standard framed specials like Pigford's Z1000 and Chris's Z1R. It would be great to see these all together on the standard along with some daily use vehicles like UK Kevs Z1000.
For my sins I promise to send in an article for the next mag on the building of my Harris for all those that may be interested in the long and sometimes painful saga.
