Travel advice sought to Liskeard

#1 PostAuthor: Z1B » Tue Jun 11, 2013 9:08 am

Hi folks, there are 8 of us travelling to Faro, from Scotland but on the Saturday night we are staying at a Hotel in Liskeard with a lot of those from down south, ok question If we were going direct to Plymouth having done it before we would continue down the A38 from the M5, but would it be quicker (seeing as Liskeard is about 15 miles further) to go down the A30 towards Launceston then left down the A388, then over the A390 to Liskeard.

Points to consider this is a fair slog (500 mile) and our hols don't really start till Spain, sooooo if it is pissing down should we stick to the A38 through Plymouth or venture the shorter route, advice appreciated, and if its sunny ...... :D
Best run in recent years, Faro 2,500 miles, roads to die for. Applecross (NW 500) also awesome roads, current bikes, Z1, GPZ1100, ZRX1100, HD Fat bob.

Personally.....
I would go A.30 to Launceston, the A.30 is better quality than the A.38, making it easier to keep a group together and avoiding slow HGV's on the hilly bits of the A.38.
Depending on your time of arrival, the A.38 around Plymouth can get very busy at rush hour.
If you have time, the B3212 over Dartmoor to Tavistock is very scenic, then A.390 to Liskeard.

Use the A30, you run the risk of coming up against sheep, tractors, etc on the A38.
