Brighton Speed Trials 12th Sept
Just a reminder for anyone who`s interested, it`s the Brighton Speed Trials on Saturday 12th September, i`ll be racing my Z1R and Barry will be there on his very quick Turbo Z1000J, plus of course all the usual 400 - 500 + BHP Hayabusas and everything else in between.
If you`ve never been before it`s worth seeing just the once, 8 and 9 sec 1/4 mile passes on Brighton Seafront (Madeira drive) is unlike any other event and well worth supporting. Hopefully see you there!

Cheers Steve, and yes Pigford it is invite only you cannot just turn up and get to race, they decide (VMCC) who get`s in or not, i just get lucky each year.
For me it`s a real privilege to race at such an historic event, especially when my bike won a trophy for `best presented bike` a few years back. It`s been going for over 100 years now, and is amazing it`s still going strong despite constant pressure about the noise etc, luckily the town Mayor comes along and supports it!

What time do'es it start, the weather looks good and I will be there on my Z1.
Will.
Hello Will,
The cars usually start around 9.30 - 10.00 ish for the first practice run, then the bikes at around 11.00, then everyone does 2 more runs in the afternoon.
Most people who are racing get there around 7.00 - 8.00am, as it`s a nightmare to get parked in the pit area if you turn up late. At the end of the day when everyone has done their 3 runs, they run the top 6 fastest cars and bikes, usually around 5.00pm ish. This is well worth waiting for, as the bikes really go for it trying to break the course record. Rest assured i won`t be in the top 6!

It`s £10 to get in to the pit area and be able to walk along the balcony area for a better view, well worth it as you can see bugger all from the top road. Hope to see you there!

Cheers Berne, but the 'old girl' isn`t going this time, Al (Zorded) is staying at home instead.

Good luck FlabbyZ1R, sure it will be a great day just the same.

Take the back tyre off, it aint doing anything now anyway.

Apologies for the late report, but just spent the evening trying to fix the bike with Al (Zorded)
. So take a guess how Brighton went? Surprisingly very well all things considered!
The weather was excellent as usual, blue skies and nice and warm, like a proper summers day. There were loads of spectators, and i lost count of how many were admiring and taking pics of the Z1R, it really does get a lot of attention there, and people seem to love it as it`s different and stands out from the rest. Even the usual comment of 'that`s the bike from Mad Max!'
So for my first run i thought i`d see if there was any grip and give it plenty of revs, hmmm that was a bad move as i should know the answer by now, bugger all! It went sideways off the line spinning up and smoking the rear tyre, that cost me a fair bit and ended up as an 11.20
.
The 2nd run was a pretty perfect start, no wheelspin and smooth gearchanges, except i had to short shift as i wasn`t revving past 8,500 - 9,000RPM, so i was in top before i knew it and unable to get flat out in any gear. It was still a respectable 10.77 @ 126mph, so no too shabby, but could have been a low 10.
The 3rd run was pretty much a repeat of the 2nd at 10.88 (i think) with it still not pulling the revs, kind of like the rev limiter was cutting in too early (it was set at 11,000RPM). Barry was having a few issues and struggling too, but i`m not sure what his best time was.
The best thing though was seeing a Hayabusa Turbo beat the track record with a 8.80 @ 163mph!
Plus some pretty quick cars too, including a kit car with 2 x Hayabusa engines! That`s just being greedy.
If you didn`t go or have never been then try and make it next year, there is nothing else like it, and you get to take the piss out of a fat bloke on an old Zed too!

Cheers for posting the vids Al, they came out quite well for a digital camera cable tied to the bottom of the rear shock.
And thanks to Rick Brett for that idea, as i stole it off him after seeing how good his on bike camera footage was, with a small digital camera set to video mode on his bike at Avon Park, cheers Rick, will you be attending any other meets this year?
I`m going to Santa Pod this Sat for a RWYB to see if we`ve fixed the rev problem, and trying out a 41 tooth rear sprocket, so fingers crossed.
