sounds like a knackered battery.does engine run ok with lights out. try switching indicators on with engine running. does it still run.
other thing is have you wired the light switch and kill switch wrong.

Does sound like a wiring issue, check headlight and tail light bulbs are fitted correctly as well.Start with the easy things first, have you had it apart anywhere? switch could be earthing through the handlebars,do the lights work okay with engine off and will it turn over with the lights on?

good luck

i put a 60/55w bulb in a while back, it should be a 55/60w halogen, although i have used the lamp since, except, that was while riding, could it be that it wiorked then because the bike was charging at speed and it cant cope with the bulb at low revs??? im off to get the right bulb anyway. will try some insulation tape on the bars to stop any earthing.

ps it has started firing up on the button again.

cant see the bulb making any difference.Though did have a bulb that had blown and the fillerment was touching the inside casing off the bulb and earthing out.
with ignition on and engine not running can you switch the lights on ok.
unplug the switch from the rest off the harness under the tank and clean it.

plug it back in and remove the switch from the handlebars so its not earthing out and try starting the engine either button or kickstart.

switch lights back on, What happens ?

:beam :up thanks Floyd, thanks Steve, got it, absolutely right, took the switch apart, cleaned it, found a wire for the kill switch had a slight nick in it, as it has been damp today, it was arcing over when i switched the lights on.

must have nicked it when i put new bars on months ago, but haven't used it in the damp.  mot guy was very good about it, he said just book it in again when its sorted, also said if its raining, don't worry, just phone and book another day, he wouldn't take his bike out in the rain. :D thanks again guys.
