Ok, I have an issue with my paint - it looked lovely for the nine months it was wrapped up in my spare bedroom, but three weeks after putting it on the bike it looks like this:



I'm guessing theres a pinhole in the tank and the petrol vapour is forcing the paint away from the tank - does that make sense? Think I should be able to get the guys who did it to redo it without addtional payment? I handed over what I thought was a solid tank, I was told (after they'd painted it) it was covered in holes especially around the tank badges (where they'd dug out filler) but that it was ok as they'd sealed the tank...

Opinions gratefully received....

Bummer.. On the other hand if they said they sealed it and it's ok WELL hopefully they will stand over their work

sorry to see that mothra, hope they do have some morals. is it not a good idea to get a different tank?

I had the same problem with the repainting on one of my tanks when it was done last year--

My tank was painted very well--- i was well pleased but aftrera few weeks a sneaky big blister of petrol appeared under the paint---what a pisser!!!!!

The guy who did the paint job was ok with repainting it after i did the tank sealing work.


Don't forget the obvious--these tanks are quite old --i fi have any other tanks painted i will seal them first just to be sure.

Just a quick update - reached out to the paintshop today, immediate response was 'I'm very sorry this has happened and the one thing we won't do it to leave you out in the cold' so if anyone was concerned they've followed lovely paintwork up with fast and effective customer service....

Sorry guys - it took me a while to get the replacement tank (thanks buckle) dropped off. Some info for you - the painter was Altamura in camberley - they did Dr Rod's z900 as well. Lovely guys, brilliant work, but a bit slow.

Basically when I dropped in a new tank they told me they'd sealed a whole bunch of tanks last year and they've had most of them back to be redone. They will now not seal a tank unless it's at the assumed risk of the customer. Any remotely iffy tanks they send off for pressure testing, which seems to be a smart idea.

Hi where i work we have a few old guys who have used lead filler in a couple of my tanks fantastic job and no problems.

Only problem is finding that type of skill.

Stuart what is the condition of the tank??
