gasket gooo

can anyone tell me what would get gasket gooo (blue)off the recesses of my barrels,ive just had them bead blasted and inbetween the barrels is full of gasket gooo,dint see it before as full of crude.need to know if i can put some type of thinners or solvent stuff on to get it off.dont want to do harm to them.
it wont help cooling down will it.

Check the DIY retailers - there might be a solvent available for bathroom flexible sealant - that'll probably do the job.
If not, maybe try cellulose thinners - it won't dissolve it but it will help loosen the bond with the ali so you can winkle it out more easily.
You might also to try a hot air stripping gun - BUT NOT WITH THE THINNERS!!!
DON'T be tempted to muck around with strong acids or alkali/caustics - you'll ruin your nice new surface!!

cheers for the reply,i cant help thinking that its been put there for a reason,im now looking for cracks, leaks inbetween barrels,cant see owt yet,
will be most anoyed if its got a crack somewere in barrels.its a 1015 barrel block,with a 1197cc sleeves in it .i might have to resleeve them again.

Pretty sure acetone is available as nail varnish remover??
If its blue hylomar; i have used petrol to get it off before.
Push soft cloth or tissue to pack round the goo and soak for a bit with petrol or white spirit.
If it leaves an shabby un-blasted mess behind after scraping and prodding with a small screwdriver; how about a little sensitive touch up spray with VHT or PJ1 heat resistant spray after a little masking off!!

I am assuming that as you say it is Blue then we are talking about Hylomar (a superb product developed in the 1960's for the Rolls Royce aero division) - The product is acetone based to keep it fluid, once applied the acetone evaporates and the product seals - the re application of acetone wiill remove it

cheers boys,had a word with local bike mechanic today,and he says if it was run on dragstrip in usa,they might have put it in to warm up faster to acheive top running temp,sounds plausable to me.rb your the man to answer that one mate.

Hillbilly.....RB'S right. We use the hylomar at our aerospace facility and we use acetone or arklone or icp to remove it.
