Question For Mr Pigford

I see on Ebay an electronic pickup to suit a KZ1000. Can this be used to replace the points on a 73 Z1. Is there any other electronics associated with this pickup or can it simply replace the points to trigger the coils. I suppose others may also know this questions so jump in. Just seems Mr Pigford knows the ins and outs of what can and can't work on other Kawasaki models. Thanks KP :?:

Kerry..... I honestly don't know... (Ash never taught me that one :shock:

) I've never tried it..... But I'd imagine you'll probably need the igniter box too :?:

Yes it will work as long as you know your wiring and what goes where, timing on the z900 is the same as the z1000 so not a prob,
Im sure someone will come in now and say im wrong, but iv done it, lol

Let me just quote, even though the timing marks on the z900 are different the two engines time up the same,

and some work to how it fits with your z900 inner points cover as easily as the original one does? Looks easier to buy a complete known setup to me.

the way to finding out if it will work,is to put it on and see if you can make it work,if at first you dont succeed ,and all that,trial and era, :lol:

You will need the ignitor (ecu) and advance/retard to go with it. Plus dependant on what coils you have it may need a different set.

Unless it's a long term project and you are looking to pick up the bits cheap when the opportunity arises, save your money and buy a Dyna S.

Thanks for the info guys. I wasn't actually thinking of a change until I saw the parts on Ebay and got thinking. I know my CBX has this set up and uses ignitors. I agree a Dyna would be a better alternative. Cheers and thanks for the feedback and info. KP
