15.10 volts

guys, with the standard reg and rec on my z1a its showing 15.10 volts at high tickover. could anybody tell me if that is bad. i understand it should be 14.50, which it is on my transit van.

Is this with the new reg/rec unit fitted ? dont put the dyna S on if its putting out that much, as they dont like high volts.

Mick, I checked my standard regulator today plus an extra old one I had too, the kawasaki service manual I have gives 15-16v as spot on at 4000rpm but I see from posts on here that some say not more that 14.5 and it should not rise higher as you raise the revs. Mine both seemed to read just over the 16v and it did go up as the revs were raised. Going by that I reckon both mine are shagged.

Hi you are correct should be 14.5v dc,are you measuring directly across the battery? and what are you using to measure volts? is it a calibrated digital meter? Cheers Paul J...

I used a digital multimeter on mine (and it is working), straight across the terminals, I just heard back from dave at z-power there too, he has a unit for the A4 in stock so I bought it, I've had enough faffing about and it was gonna be done at some stage, figured I might as well save meself the hassle of damaging something else or wrecking the battery.

bought a new digital multi meter yesterday, tested the transit battery today, 14.50 volts, across the battery. but the bike was 15.10.

My Dyna S was fried by over voltage from a knackered regulator/rectifier so make sure your new one is ok before fitting the Dyna S!!!!!

i will lay myself open and let you know the extent of my electrical knowledge. i took the multi meter back to mill auto's today because it wasn't working, :roll: he took the plastic caps off :roll: :lol: what a twonker. we all laughed at me :o :lol: :lol: :lol: i just dont care see :lol:

its easy to be honest when you can laugh at yourself, that's for sure.

Right tomorrow i will put the combined unit back on then test it, the only wire i wasn't sure about was the one to the generator.

what i see is this =into the rectifier goes

[1]the earth to the battery [discard]

[2] The live wire to the battery with fuse [plug that into the white double receiver on new unit]

[3] Another wire that comes from the engine somewhere [plug that into the white double receiver]

the rest= the plug, [no problem] and the earth to [behind the kickstart.]

Just about to do this job myself if 6 wire unit mine is as follows,3 yellow from alternator output,black to frame,red and white via fuse to battery positive terminal,brown wire is switched positive feed,live when ignition on i am going to use brakelight feed i originally was sent 5 wire unit and found it was for single phase alternator no good for Z1b as 3 phase,have since found out Cb250 unit is a good replacement Hope This Helps Paul J.....

Fitted a new combined reg/rec to my z1b purchased from Z Power tested it with a peak at 4000 rpm of 14.45 volts across the battery terminals this seems to be correct.
