well, what a day thats been :x OK, has anyone come up against this one. i bought a clutch cable from debbens, next day delivery, great. the bloke says one cable fits all 1973 to 1980 z1 to z1000. on putting the nipple in the housing behind the sprocket plate, i find there is to much nipple and i cant fit the split pin through. do i grind it down? will that not weaken the strength of the remaining cable? or is there another solution? very gratefull of help guys, as its been a bit of a day.

I've always just used pattern cables when replacing them on bikes, Hi-lex are the company that do them and they never gave any problems once fitted, I bought a new clutch cable for this Z I have now on ebay for £9, they're bike specific too, perfect job.
I'm thinking of getting one of those nice hydraulic conversions from Germany at some stage down the line, after I sort everything else out firs tho

thanks Bear, that does help , that's just what i needed to hear, i now know that it must be a fault with the oversize nipple. i will phone them this morning. no complaints against debbens, these things happen.

ok, i phoned debbens, no problem obviosly. sending it back, when they have some more arrive from usa they are going to check if there is one with a smaller nipple. the one going back had a 5 mm nipple, i need a 3.5 mm nipple, didnt want to file it down as i didnt want to weaken it. the old onehas 3.5 mm. .......strange.......also to much nipple talk for me to handle :ek

OK, thanks Bear, i think i should take the file to it then, if you have one at 6.6, means mine is smaller, story of my life  thanks for checking mate, when i get back from a run i will get the file to it, also must phone Debbens and claim anxiety neurosis [also the story of my life]

well b;gg;r me :nono  i can be an idiot. i can file the front of the thick bit of nipple down, thus not touching the inner cable at all.   didnt see it yesterday, can see it today. :smak2
