I know this isn't going to help, but surely there should have been some basic instructions with it.

Some electrical guy please help Pauljac!
I only know of a Six wire reg/rectifier.
He has a Five wire reg/rectifier and has been told it is correct type for a Z1B and a Z900-A4.
Now, I have heard of these working, but I reserve my judgement.

The six wire connection is:
Stator Rotor: yellow, yellow & yellow .... 3 wires (we all agree 3 connections from the alternator, where we get our power)
Earth: 1 x black wire (we all agree, must have earth)
Switch: 1 x brown wire
Positive: 1 x white/red wire.
Does anyone know how a 5 wire is connected to a Z1B or an A4?
My concern is, that it only has two yellow wires!

I have read this thread a couple of times & I don't know the answer, so I haven't posted......... till now!

Like Garn, I am sceptical that there are only two yellow wires & not three, but I am only really familiar with the later z1000A1/2

I have a 5 wire regulator for this from electrex... 3x yellow to stator, 1x red +12v, 1x black to ground/earth. It does not have a 'switched' 12v.

Three questions;
1 Does this bike have a single phase generator? (how many cloth covered wires go into the blue plug? 2= single phase 3= 3 phase)
2 can the supplier not supply wiring details?
3 who is the supplier, what is the model No?

Likewise GB. I've just fitted the aftermarket Reg/Rec as supplied by Z-Power to my 73. They list it as correct fitment for ALL MODELS 72 - 75 - ie including Z1B - and it has 3 yellow leads denoting 3 phase generator.

I would be AMAZED if Kawa chopped to single phase for 76 and 77, then reverted back to 3 phase for 78/A2. Why would they???

Sooooo... Paul, I can only think that the manufacturer's fitment list for your unit is wrong and this error has been passed on by the retailers you mention.
