Going to tackle the front forks next week. Changing the oil, are there any special tools required or is it a straight forward job?

I did my forks last week, it's an A4 as well, it's pretty straight forward, just pop out the drain screws at the bottom and pump the forks to get the oil out.
I decided to take my forks off altogether tho, take off the top caps and drain out every last drop to make sure the exact amount was going back in when refilling 'em.

I would go by the oil height measurement from the top cap rather than the actual oil capacity it's more accurate, unless they have been stripped and cleaned internally there will be remnants of the old oil still inside.

Is the oil level mark obvious?

There's no mark, you measure it from the top of the fork tube, you will need a length of steel pipe or what I used was a threaded bar, insert that down into the fork to the bottom of the stanchion, mark where it comes level with the top of the tube.
Take it out and measure the distance from the mark you made for the top of the tube to where the oil leaves it's mark on the bar.
The correct measurement I had from my manual was 455mm.

Bit of windscreen washer tube from motor factors, oil filler cap from an Atco lawnmower, syringe from local chemists, stainless tube from auto jumble, couple of socket caps from the tin.

Your going to do it again at some point and with something like this you cant get it wrong.
