can someone tell me what the difference between z carbs and cv carbsis,and do they work on all bikes.

Zed carbs are old & basic... but work OK... They are basic SLIDE carbs with a direct like from SLIDE to THROTTLE CABLE

CV carbs are more complicated & often make engine run 'smoother ' but are a pig to tune. The CV (Constant Velocity) bit is ofter destinguished by the top of the carb. This contains a diagphram which controls the movement of the SLIDE... The throttle cable only opens a butteryfly valve, which effects the venturi pressure - which in turn effects the pressure in the diagphram - which in turn lifts the slide

CV carbs are best avoided coz the diagphrams can split/perish with age & cost £££ to replace them

Swapping carbs form bike to bike can work... but more often than not....

GSXR1100 CV / flat slide carbs will certainly work OK (in fact pretty well) with a Zed with larger inlet rubbers (Z1000A1 1015 Wiseco in this case), oh and some slight float height changes (The Gixer engine sits at a forwards slanting angle compared to the Zed). This is what I have atm but I'm still looking for 33 -34 mil smoothbores for both looks and (hopefully) more power and adjustability (££££££)

All I needed was a main jet change with the Gixer carbs and I've been OK with them for 8 years with no probs at all. Way back I seen them used with a nice Zed in Streetfighters mag and managed to pick a set up for £50.

Pigford is correct with his info about the diaphragms but I've been OK. Tuning them was a no brainer, even balancing them was easy, perhaps luck on my part, who knows???

Don't get all upset Hillbilly. Unless you're running over 1100cc 33s will be too big for your engine. I do hear 34CVs are a good replacement for 29 SBs have a look on Wired Georges site for details

im running an 1198cc bigbore kit.and am after some carbs that would help to run properly.i dont think 28mm standard carbs would suffice.

Emm if this was directed at me, then you need to wind your neck in ffs. I never asked in here for carbs, I was offered them after making a comment. Thats the last advice I'll be giving you matey. Forum jobsworths like you need to get a life.
