When you fit new bronze swing arm bushes in the Z1 do you have to ream them out for the steel sleeves to fit correctly? Once fitted swing arm bushes to my Norton Commando and had to ream them out.

Hal, always make sure that the steel-sleeve rotates in the bronze-bush, otherwise, the pivot pin acts as the bearing surface and the inside of the steel-sleeve acts as the bush. Hence, the bronze bush would not do anything!
Always insure that the pivot bolt, when tightened, locks/sandwhiches the distance-piece and the steel-sleeves as one unit, when the nut is tightened. It can be seen that the distance-piece length is a critical.
These swing-arms work well, if these details are adhered to!
I have pulled many apart to find the steel bush siezed in the bronze bush.
