Engine assembly

Right finally going to get round to putting the top end of my engine back together this week, apart from chucking loads of nice clean oil over everything as I hammer it together, do I need to use any thing else on the engine internals?

Best to use a moly grease on tight fit components... like cam bearings....
Other than that..... oils good
When it comes to start up..... use kick start (or starter with kill switch OFF) so you can get oil pumping around motor before it runs

Thanks guys, do you bother to stick the little rubber blocks on the cam chain wheels on, if so with what, the manual seems to suggest you do, but they certainly werent?

little dab of grease will hold them in place.

Thanks, got some lubriplate 105 ordered from Debbens, had a good chat with Steve, he did not think the carbs would need rejetting which would be a bonus.

You don't mention it, but have you had the head & barrells bead/vapour blasted at all
If you have you will need to flush out the oilways big time, cos that blasting media get's everywhere.

Did get them blasted at SEP, was not too happy with the finish so Steve Smethhurst did them in his shaky thing!!
He also cleaned the oil ways out for me, as I presume SEP will have done as well.
How would you clean them out?

If Steve Smethurst has cleaned them, then I would not worry about it.
I have cleaned them by removing the brush from my parts washer & just pushing the hose onto the oilways, flushing them with cleaning solvent, then a bit of compressed air to finish 'em off.
Some of the oilways are 'blind' which are harder to flush, but like I said, if Steve Smethurst has done 'em, then you've got nothing to worry about. Good luck with the rebuild.

I wouldn't be so sure about that, i've recently been working on a set of carbs that where cleaned by him and although they had a great finish to them they where found to have quite a bit of shite still inside them, we had to clean them again and put them through an ultrasonic bath again. In fairness he was willing to take them back and redo them and i'm sure it is not the usual result of his work, but the fact remains that you cannot take anything for granted.

Had my engine and carbs done by Steve Smethurst and must admit did not find a spec of crap anywhere. Top finish but its just a shame that it does not stay the same for long.
Anyway Steve it sounds like your a bit of a whiz with the carbie things so seeing as you just done the road from me I might be cheeky and ask a favour in the near future.
