Hi All any tips on forming a piece of broken fin on Z1 B barrel without resorting to barrel removal and welding?

It has been suggested to me that 'Devcon' is the way to go. You need to make a splint/mould either side of the broken fin, use some solid type of plastic (a bit of the wife's tupperware would work a treat, just don't get caught!) then force in the Devcon mix, wait to dry, then file to suit!
I haven't tried this myself...... but it was from a good source!

OK GB, But I still have the broken off bit :?: :!:

So do you mean make a new bit with Devcon, or stick the bit back on :??

Devcon eh, out the way lad, I'm heading for eBay :!:

Piggy, It was suggested to me that you make an entire new piece, but it may be possible to stick the old piece back on. There are several varieties of Devcon, one of them is specific to aluminium. It ain't cheap & you'll probably have to look at ebay USA to find it,,,,, Good luck!

I repaired some fins with a low temp aluminium repair.
But ththis can't be done with the engine in situ.

Devcon won't take the heat and will eventually fall out.

You could try JB Weld

I've used it in a number of areas and it shapes well.

Sorry chaps if the Devcon is not up to it, sounds like my 'source' wasn't as clued up as he made out. On a slightly different note & not wanting to Hi-Jack this thread, he also told me ST cams were a bit 'hotter' than standard. Anyone shed any light on this :?
