Is the ST gearbox and casing the same as the MK2?

Hi
I am looking for a MK2 restoration project but have been offered a cheap ST. As I don't really want a shafty, does anyone know how much converting it will take to get it back to chain drive?
Are the gearbox casings different or does the shaft jobby simply bolt onto the output shaft and standard casings? Or is it a completely different gearbox?
Also, are the frames different due to the swingarm?

Thanks in advance for your help :up

The ST frame is different to the MK.2 as are many other cycle parts of the 2 models.
The ST engine is the same as MK.2 and can be converted to chain drive.
Don't be fooled in thinking you can make an ST into a MK.2 as you've got Bob Hope

you have to change the complete gear assy from any Z1-MKII, since the ST out shaft is different at the end. you will not be able to fit a front sprocket on to the ST shaft.
also you need the gear cover from the later MKII, B1-B4 LTD, J, GPZ B1 B2 models. there is 2 holes then not needed in the ST case but no problem since there is no oil ventilation.
if you want to use the stronger ST clutch assy you have to use the Z1-MKII gear change drum outer plate for the neutral mechanism, because the ST one does not fit under the Z1-MKII gear cover. also need the J, GPZ bigger and longer clutch push rod.
