I have just taken my crank case out of the dishwasher . It was lovely and shiny after vapour blasting and now it is matt grey. Anyone done this or am I the only muppet out there. Does it mean I will have to get it vapour Blasted again?

Well - that could have gone better...

All dishwasher detergents are very alkaline and that will dull your alloy.

'Fraid you've lost that surface lustre for good - so it'll need to be retrieved by blasting again.

Sorry to be the one to tell you

Fredswat, have a talk to the vapour blaster guy and tell him what you have done. He may be able to just treat the outer surface with plain water (probably with a low ph - slightly acidic) to rejuvinate. I'm not sure what medium they use in a normal vapour blast, however they usually need washing out.
Good luck and regardZ

Sometimes this site is really helpful some of the people on it have useful , interesting and even on occasion amusing things to say. Some people are great and offer loads of help and advice. But if I may, I would like to say that there are a few regular posters who have obviously formed a little ciique who think they are hugely funny (trust me your not). It is one of the things that puts me off going to any of the club meets. I don't really want to mix with the "in crowd" who seem so far up their own £$%" and seem to have little else in their lives other than to sneer and poke fun.

Fred, drop Keafleaf a pm. He's an active site member and i believe he does vapour blasting for a living. He may have some usefull tips; vinegar, coke a cola etc etc.
Was it ceramic vapour blast media????

He's based on The Isle of Wight i think.

Thanks for the advice Zorded I appreciate it.

As for the other comments Mick Z1A as I said I have a good sense of humour and thank you for your post I accept no offence was meant.

I still think that quite alot of the posts on the forum are from sad people who probably have little else going on either in their lives or upstairs if you know what I mean .

I love the work that goes into the members bikes and I am totally impressed with the knowledge that exists amongst the members. I have experienced real genorosity and enthuisiasm when dealing with certian club members but as is the way with these types of web sites they tend to attract certain stereotypical groups. I suppose you have to just ignore them and get on. I guess the demographic for this website is 40something men who want to relive their youth. Me included but it doesn't mean you have to act like your twelve. What was it St Paul said to the Corinthians "there comes a time to put away these childish things" (that's Corinthians as in from Corinth not a non league football team)

For your info Mr Pigsfoot I own a fireblade, LC350, GT750 suzuki, Aprillia rs125 as well as the Z1B I am restoring. So if I was sad I could be a member of a number of owners clubs. I also have found that anyone who is a blind zelot of one brand over another is a bit shallow. There are loads of great bikes out there some of the Kawasakis included

I have always wanted a H2 but until I have the funds that will have to wait.

I think I will be getting the lower case reblasted. I suspect MaineKZ your right. by the way your rebuild is spectacular and your workshop is a credit to you.

Going to sign off now to await your responses I will not be posting many notes on here - have too many better things to do.

PS At the risk of stirring the wrath of all of the regular poster crowd I also think the little emoticon faces are a bit pathetic
