Hi, my name`s Chris Taylor I`ve owned a Z1000 for Two years which I bought off ebay which apparently just needed the carbs balanced. I spent 21hrs,1100 miles driving to Montrose from Bridgend in S.Wales & back again. My mate started stripping down the bike as I`m not very mechanically minded and cracked an air intake port removing the carbs. We had it welded and it`s been sitting there ever since as my mate has been "busy" ever since. I`m now in the situation that I have had to give up my job to become my dad`s full time carer so money`s tight, but I need to get the bike up and running as I have no other form of transport having had Two cars stolen last year.
I know this might sound stupid but I`m not sure how to tell the model 1000 that I`ve bought. The chassis number is KZT00A-003483. Does this make it a 1000A? I`d really apprieciate some help on this one as my mate is now able to put the bike back together and when I bought the bike there was no original airbox, just a chrome box with a bit of foam wedged in it so I need to get one of these asap so that I can get back on the road. Welcome to the forum. Sounds like your luck's in but I wouldn't buy any lottery tickets.. Having said that things must change soon.

Sounds like a Z1000 A1. Don't know how your mate managed to crack something removing the carbs maybe it was already cracked.

Second hand airboxes on e-bay usually go for between ?80 and?100 so if you want to put it on the road cheaply you might be better with a set of separate filters. It migh need a bit of rejetting though, unless that's been done already when the airbox was removed. If the carbs are off it's worth checking to see what jets are in it.

Hi chris yes it would be best to try to get a standard air box, but I beleive chris was trying to give you a cheaper option,and there are a few in the club running with K&N's just try to keep them dryish, not that easy for us living in Wales

As Steve says it's a cheaper option an airbox'll cost you more unless you're very lucky... It'll run better with an airbox if it's got standard jets, that's why I said you should check what's in it if someone's had the airbox off before - if you put an airbox on it and it's been rejetted for whatever was fitted that you've had to take off you'll get problems too. You need to know where you're starting from.

I've got what i think is a Z1000 airbox that i'm selling.I've got a small stand at the Donno show and will be there all weekend.

Yes, agree with Chris, it is a Z1000 A1, about 9/76.
Be careful you get the right Air-box and don't forget you will probably need new hoses to this air-box (they go impossibly hard if they are not new and soft). I think you will recognise the air-box by the two holes for the silencer at the rear (not sure of this!).

Now, you say it had a singular "torn" foam air filter on it, also, you did a fair few miles..... My opinion is that, unless you get London-Calling's Air-box for a reasonable price and considering, that it ran alright with that old excuse for an air-filter, I would just fit pods.... That would get you mobile quickly at an affordable cost and may not need re-jetting.

Amen on the new rubbers

Unless you want hours of frustration, tears, skinned knuckles etc. get some new carb to airbox rubbers. Its imply not worth the hassle installing the old even if they look fine

Hi I stiill haven`t had chance to sort this z out yet. Do u still have the box and how could I tell if it`s the 1 to fit my bike?. Also how much would u sell it 4 as my funds are ltd as I`m my dads carer and only get ?47 a week. Bloody govt. Chers Chris.
