Regulator/Rectifier Opinions Please

Having searched & read through old material on here I am still not sure which is the best way to go. I want to replace the seperate unit's on my Z1000A1 & have three options available to me. I would be grateful for your opinions
Option 1. Second hand unit from Z1000ST, I would cut the green plug off of the old regulator & conect ST unit with bullet connectors to the old green plug. Cost £Nothing
Option 2. New combined unit from Electrex World. Would need to connect in a similar fashion as option 1. Cost £47.50 + postage.
Option 3. New combined unit from Z1 Enterprises. Would just plug in, as the green plug is already fitted. Cost £90.00 ish including postage.
I don't mind spending the money, if it's a worthwhile upgrade, but I also don't want to spend it if the ST unit will work just as well.
Also if anyone has an old dead regulator, I would be grateful for the wire/plug to save chopping one off of a working unit. Iwill pay of course!

Check with Vehicle Wiring Products as they might have the electrical connector you need if you use the ST unit.

In terms of electronics these units are pretty basic and generally reliable, the combined rect/Reg unit would be my preference, its just neater.
A lot of us buy NOS original units whose electronics is 30yrs plus old and hey ho they fail, some think this is early life failure (one of the failure mode curves for those into RCM) but in reality its either old componenets gone beyond their shelf life and to some extent the poor fit of the electrical connections. Have you notice what a poor fit the STD plugs/sockets really are? If your not into originality I'd renew all of these connections with descent bayonet type.

I used a combined one from a GSXR and wired it in, cheap and has never let me down. Most of the modern ones should work.
I had to change the way it was wired, in as much I wired all the wires from the stator into it rather than feed it though a load for the third wire as it is original I believe.

Like Mick I got one from Jeff when the rate was a lot better and it's probably the best way to go, I think any newer compatible combined unit would be a big improvement, also the original regulators and rectifiers were known to be troublesome from day one, you could be lucky and they would last a fair while but they were always unreliable. If you still want an old unit let me know as I have a few kicking round the garage and I wouldn't dream of putting one back on a bike.

Combined units available from Z Power @ £90 minus Club Discount of 10% so should be £81 + postage which will be less than From Jeff Z1 Enterprises (Sorry Jeff but the exchange rate at present not favourable).
Gonna order one myself.
