Which headlamp (ie the glass part) was fitted to the UK spec Z1's 72 - 75?
Was it Koito or Stanley? Or both?
Did the UK bikes always have a pilot light?

Chris
UK spec wiring diagram shows pilot light and I think I'm right in saying it should be a Koito, thats what I have anyway

Well I just bought an Old Stock Koito H4 halogen unit with LH dip, but no pilot.
the guy listed it as a Hella unit (because it was in a Hella box) but it has the Koito mark embossed on the centre of the lens.
£12.
It's japanese, probably 70's, and it'll keep me out of the hedgerow - so that'll do for the time being!

I always thought they were Stanley (with pilot) for ALL big Zeds, but a chat with Dave Marsden at Stafford some time ago would suggest Koito for the 73 models. I still think Dave is wrong, but it's difficult to query such an expert.
My 73 Z2 has Stanley with pilot and is original.

Very few people have been fortunate to own an untouched z1 and I was one of those. DCF 60L a UK spec bike ordered at Earls Court bike show Nov '72 was fitted with a Stanley headlamp with pilot light and I have seen 2 others that were the same. What was fitted to US bikes imported since their launch maybe somewhat different.

Mike,
As I suspected.
Too be honest I cant think of any Zed that had Koito as standard. Not even USA models. Perhaps USA import owners can clarify on this.
