Hi all,
anyone give me a clue about my throttle problem.
On my kz1000 (1977) when i pull away the bike dies, pull in the clutch to save it let the clutch out and it goes away like a bat out of hell.
Ive tried putting carb cleaner in the petrol but it doesnt seemed to have helped.
Any suggestions before i do myself an injury

Check the little pilot fuel holes are clear under the leading face of the slide.

Odd-on its running weak, if standard set up

This is a common problem as they were set up on the weak side for emissions compliance (USA was hot on it even in the 70's)

Sometimes raising the needle 1 clip position can help.....

You gotta be sure everything else is Hunhy Dory first....
Valve clearances, timing, carbs fuel level (a.k.a. float height)... etc

Watty, I have had a similar problem. In my case one of the reinforced rubber fuel lines had been badly connected to the petrol cock outlet. The rubber (although new) had separated and restricted the flow on one line too much. On a long trip you would not detect it. At start it lacked power. Then it would burst into life and quickly lose power again.
Could be the problem?
Other areas that cause bad response .. Bad springs on adv/retard mech or incorrect adv/retard unit.
One tooth out in timing!
