You could try asking Rob at Mistral Engineering
http://www.mistralperformance.com/
He's loves an old Zed and has a lot of knowledge. If he does not know, his ex partner John Carpenter should know.
Good luck,
Rod

If it were possible and provided a benefit, my guess is that we would have already seen these conversions done many many years ago. :)

As far as I know nothing off the Zephyr engine fits the Zed engine as it was a total redesign - the GPz engines were a development of the early motors so that was why some bits could be made to fit. I'm sure Steve Debben will be able to give a definitive verdict on this when he looks in.

I am sure the studs are a different dimension apart. As Diesel has pointed out the cam guide wheels are missing so the cam chain drive would need to be re-engineered, another problem would be the combustion chamber volume which would require modifying. You would also need to fabricate an exhaust to fit as the ports are a different spacing. inlet ports are also different although you could fit the Zephyr carbs if they clear the Z tank, so the answer is it could be possible with lots of work, but I would ask why, 8 plugging the Z head is far simpler and a lot less expensive. Regards Steve
