Clutch Hub rebuild kits
Anyone knows who stocks the spring and rivit kits for clutch hubs as I can't find any apart from direct from APE ?

Rich these seem to be a bit hard to get - the APE springs are stiffer than the standard ones too. There was talk a few months ago of trying to get some made up for the club as the last of these kits seems to have disappeared with Big Four but the discussions never went anywhere. Will raise it again with Jerry.
Rich, help! I need to do one of these myself. I was wondering how you rivet those, even with a kit. Do you need a press or can they be ball-pained with a hammer?
I supposed an engineering shop could probably make the six rivets. but then it's the springs that you would need! I have seen many with broken springs and many with loose springs. Do you think a new spring will solve the problem of a loose spring? Sorry for the questions, particularly since I can't answer your question as to.. Where do you get the springs & kit other than APE?.

Garn - the last one I did I used a big G clamp and a socket to press the rivits through and then then welded them onto the plate. These were available as a kit then and not peened in the replacement set .
The replacement springs are usually of a higher spring rate and do remove the slack out of the system. If you have a spring maker near you have a word about them making you some springs, take the clutch basket with you for them to inspect.
If I do find somewhere I will let you know.

Hello Garn, the kit has 3 rivets not 6, these come with the replacement collars and 6 heavy duty springs, the downside of the heavier springs is more transmission noise. To fit the kit you need to partly drill out the 3 old rivets, easiest way to prevent damage is to drill an 8mm hole 3/4 of the way into the old rivet from the clutch plate side. then carefully drill of the head of the rivet with a large drill bit. Use a drift placed inside the hole you have just drilled into the old rivet. This way the side walls of the old rivet will colapse inwards, if you try to drill right throgh the rivet you risk the rivet expanding as you try to knock it out. Once out ytou can pull apart the clutch hub assembly, clean and reassemble with the 6 new springs and collars. Underneath the steel backing plate is a conical spring, this must be compressed when you refit the backing plate, we have a 3 pronged tool that we use to compress the whole assemble but you can use 3 G clamps. You then rivet (ball end of the hammer) or weld your new rivets to hold the clutch hub assembly together. You may need to drill out the backing plate and clutch centre to accomadate the replacement rivets. Steve
