Alternator Rotor Removal - A useful tip!

A useful tip for helping with the alternator rotor removal - put a tight fitting copper washer in the bolt hole for the special tool / wheel spindle to bind against, a bit of grease on it helps the rotor come off without the tool binding on the end of the crank. :D

Rich, you have me beat!..... What special tool? are you talking about a bolt from the steering head that fits into the alternator rotor, magnetic core... is this a Z1 alternator? Not wishing to knock any help, we usually use a 3/8" ball into the hole and press it out by means of the bolt?

Perhaps Rich means special tool #57001-1099?
Kawasaki used to supply this tool with one thread size but nowadays it comes with a different size each end and a hex shape midway along the shaft to which you can fit a 17mm (?)ring spanner.

Personally I use an old H**** Rs250 rear axle - 'cos I've got one in the garage. Yes Kawasaki have a special toll for it, the thread diameter changes on the mk2s to the earlier rotors. You can use a ball bearing as you say get one that fits well - you don't want to ram it up the holding bolt hole! but a copper washer will leave more threads to take the strain.
