how many tins off enamel pj1 frame paint would it take to do a desent job of mi frame(z1) and has anyone got some they dont need,i dont expect out for nowt,so what would you want for them.

3 x tins should be OK, depending how many coats you want

PJ1 is pretty expensive.

Can I suggest you speak to MaineKZ as he is about to do his and I`m sure he`s done it before.

I'm using the Extreme Chassis Paint system as supplied by Frost Automotive. 400ml aerosol cans - around £15 each so not cheap - but very good stuff.

If you're only doing a frame and not all the ancilliaries you should get away with one can of primer and 2 cans of topcoat.

I'll be posting a report on spraying on my 73 resto thread in the next week or so - in case you're interested.

Got told by my local bike shop PJ1 paing no longer being made as the factory burnt down. I tried to buy a tin to do a set of cases. Seems all over rover

I hope this helps, but I always use "Sperex Tough Black" paint.
It comes in a 400ml can, available in either satin or gloss.
Sperex label it as "super tough, polyurethane, anti-chip paint".
I have done many engines and fork legs and it really is tough! After 18,000 miles on one of my other bikes there's just a couple of chips on the fork legs.
Paul Scanlon even commented on the superb engine finish on the Saxon.
Personally I can't recommend it enough, it's the dogs danglies and I won't use any other paint!
It seems quite difficult to get hold of this stuff round here, but any bike shop will order it in for you. I always buy it in packs of four, or alternatively look on the net. Typical price is around £6.50 a can.
