Std guides have a groove in to locate the seal.

Hobbo, any valve guide that I have seen has a groove or recess for the valve seal to be retained. The only thing I can think of is that they may have been installed upside down.

Check all, both inlet and outlet and see if they are the same. Then check from the combustion chamber side or the lip or groove. In the event that I am correct, heat the head in an oven and carefully press them out and reverve them...... It is most unusual, but it could have happened!

To check on the profile of the guides refer to "Z1 Enterprises web site" illustration. Look under valve guides Z900A4 (Not Z1), Engine, page 6. The only difference in the profile is some have a circlip to prevent them going too far into the head, others have a step. All have a groove, lip or recess to take the valve guide seal.

Hobb0,
So, what's the story... How about some feedback? It would be nice to close this episode! You have probably put it away for winter?

Yeah Hobbo, what about the guides with "no-lip" situation. I'm thinking maybe there was a lip there all the time, and it went un-noticed. Pretty hard to see sometimes!
