It's all Greek to me!

Having ignition problems but cannot afford to get full electronic system yet (POST XMAS POVERTY), Have tested coils for resistance and figures are 3.8 & 4.2 ohms on the primary circuits, 14,500 & 14,400 ohms on the secondary circuits. manual states they should be about 4 ohms and about 13,500 ohms repectively. Can anyone tell me if my coils are OK with the resistances I have measured, not being electrically minded I don't know if the variations form the manual figures are excessive or not. :?
If coils are OK I will buy a DYNA S pick up/rotor and later on buy the coils to match, ideally I would buy the DYNA 2000 system to junk the mech advance unit but it's too expensive. :down

I would say those coils are ok. Whenever I've found a buggered coil the readings have been way out.

Those readings should be fine. What problems do you have?

Rich,
Problems at present are that I'm getting no sparks on 2&3 cylinders, swapped wires over and problem transferred to 1&4. Excessive arcing at points on 1&4 and still no spark at plugs on 2&3 (after reconnecting wires as they should be). Points look worn/pitted so I reckon that the condensors are duff/on their way out hence excessive arcing at points. I wanted to eliminate the coils as another cause of no sparks and it seems from Jerrys and your replies that the coils are OK.
I think I will try a Dyna S pick up/rotor running with stock coils until I can afford Dyna coils.
Another issue is that although my bike is a Z1B the advance mechanism is off a Z1, I'm told that the advancer on the Z1B (coupled with modified carbs) gave smoother idle so I wonder if it is worth changing this as well? The rotor on the Dyna S is different for the Z1 so I need to get this resolved before ordering the Dyna kit. :?
The problem now is that if I need a new advance mechanism the cost will be almost as much as a full Dyna 2000 kit with coils included from Jeff @Z1 Ent which will be the mutts nuts in terms of efficiency/performance- decisions ,decisions!!!!!!

Personally I'd go for the 2000, You may have a shorting capacitor, try disconnecting them, as you say they're only there to control the spark erosion. Check out Jeffs' price for 2000 with coils.
